Blanket in the crib?

So far we have only used aiden & anais swaddle blankets with LO in the crib. Can we start using heavier blankets now? I'm lazy and haven't even googled it yet, just wondering what you ladies are doing?

Also, I know it's bad timing being summer and all... but it gets super hot here and we have the AC going all summer typically, so it is nice to have a blanket at night.

Re: Blanket in the crib?

  • Yes, I cover him with a mid-weight blanket in the crib. No issues.

  • I kinda figured, he's old enough to toss everything out of the crib, I don't think it would smother him anymore :P

On that note, I was standing next to our blinds the other day and in a matter of seconds LO got so tangled in the blind cord he started to panic when he couldn't get free. Those things are baby death traps! (the cord is high enough that he can't reach it unless he is up in my arms)

I've been using the comforter that came with his crib set for a while now. It's on the lighter side for a comforter, but I'm kinda lax about that rule to begin with.

ETA: he loves (and always has) his blankies :)

  • Cam loves to cuddle with his blankie when sleeping.

  • I've thrown one on her before but she moves so much it usually ends up in the corner. But I wouldn't be apprehensive about giving them one at this age

  •  We've been using blankets for quite some time.

  • Yes Elliott uses a lightweight blanket to snuggle up near his chest. I'm sure your LO would be fine.

  • I'm in agreement with the other ladies - I'm comfortable with it at this point.

  • DD moves around way too much, so it wouldn't matter anyway. But even though I know she's perfectly capable of tossing it if she doesn't want it, the thought still freaks me out. So I'll probably wait until she's in college.

  • We always cover Anya up at night but shes such a crazy sleeper and moves so much that she usually kicks them off and doesnt use them so I take it out when I go in check on her. She likes her blankie to cuddle with but hates being covered when actually sleeping.

  • I didn't give Ava a blanket until she was 2. Sleep sacks are awesome.

This was me. My son Ben didn't get a blanket until he was 2 as well- we didn't do sleep sacks though. Just didn't seem necessary for me to give him a blanket before then. I am a bit of a worrier anyway. I may try to give Alice a blanket this fall/ winter.

We still use sleep sacks too. She moves all over, there's no way a blanket would last. The couple times I've tried it she's gotten all tangled up in it too. My plan is to use sleep sacks until summer, go blanket free, and then start a blanket in the fall.
This! She is all over her crib - no way a blanket would work! We have never tried though. It's warmer down here now so I typically just have her in a footed PJ for bed.

  • I've been covering DD3 with a small blanket at night for a few months now. She gets way too sweaty in a sleep sack, and she comes into bed with us around midnight anyway. The blanket stays on until she first wakes up, and then she's covered by our blankets for the rest of the night.

  • We still stick with a single layer blanket (although I'm sure he'd be okay at this point with a thicker one) but it's made out of the fuzzier material so it's softer and heavier than the Aiden and Anais blankets. He usually will kick it off in the middle of the night but uses it as a comfort and snuggle item.

  • We have been using a blanket for a couple of months now. It usually ends up wedged in a corner. She hardly sleeps with it covering her.

  • We still use the sleep sacks too.  I had NO idea that they had them with holes in the foot area!!  I'm super excited!!!  I tried to put a blanket on her a few day ago and the H had a literal kitten.
