Mini-IVF/"Natural" IVF

Just wondering if anyone has pursued this option for IVF. Not sure if we'll go this route, but interested in hearing more about it. Thank you.

Re: Mini-IVF/"Natural" IVF

  • My 2nd round was mini IVF.  I did much better with the mini IVF than the full IVF.  My RE recommended it due to my age and how I responded with the full IVF.  My RE told us he hoped we would get 2 or 3 eggs, but we were delighted we had 5 eggs (which was just as good as our first round).  4 of the 5 made it to blast!  The meds were so much better on me than the regular IVF drugs.  I have not done the natural IVF, so I can talk about that protocol.  Best of luck!

  • I did a Natural IVF cycle back in August. Didn't even use anesthesia..
It was part of a study and overall it has not been very successful. I believe as of September there were only 5 pregnancies total. Out of how many, I'm not sure. I had one egg retrieved and it made it to blast but resulted in a chemical pregnancy. Most people I know in the study did not make it to transfer. My RE said he would not recommend the Natural IVF to anyone- even me- and I have some weird condition that prevents me from using regular stims during an IVF cycle.
How is your AMH level? That might help predict how many eggs you might get during a Mini-IVF cycle.

  • Thanks! Is there a difference between mini ivf and a natural ivf? I get all of my initial blood work done in two weeks so I don't know any of my levels yet. We're looking to cycle late summer/early fall. Been TTC for over 7 years. Original diagnosis was unexplained 6 years ago. 5 failed IUI cycles.
  • Natural (at least at my clinic) meant you come in on CD3, come back on CD7 for regular monitoring and once your one or two follicles reach 17mm you trigger. No drugs except for the trigger and some anti-anxiety med for retrieval.

  • I've done regular IVF with a TON of meds as well as natural and mini-IVF. I was much more successful on mini and natural than on regular IVF. We banked embryos for a while, so that's why we went through several cycles before doing a transfer with the mini and natural. I firmly believe it all depends on the RE, lab, etc. Mini or natural are both so much better on the mind and body from my experience. I was completely drained from the process going with traditional and was ready to give up when I decided to try the mini and natural method. The place I ultimately chose once I decided to move from traditional to mini/natural was awesome. They believed in "quality over quantity", which I really appreciated. I did one round of natural and retrieved and successfully froze 3 embies. I then did a few rounds of mini to bank a few more and was very successful with them as well. Good luck in whatever you choose!!
