Stay at Home Moms

This is odd, right?

edited April 2014 in Stay at Home Moms
I have a neighbor who lost his wife about a year ago. He moved away from the neighborhood 7 months ago while his wife's family fixed up the house to sell. I didn't know him well; just saw him out when we were both walking our dogs. I haven't seen or heard from him since he moved and he just rang my doorbell asking for money. He said his girlfriend needed money for gas to drive her daughter to school, yet she was driving him around asking for money. I don't know what it is, but I am feeling a little un-easy right now.

  • WTF?! What did you say?

  • I told him that I don't keep any cash on me or in the house, and that I'm sorry to hear his girlfriend's in that situation. I asked him how he was doing and asked about the dogs, then told him good luck on finding gas money. I didn't know what else to say. I for sure wasn't about to give him money; I hardly even know him.
  • So he moved out of the neighborhood but came back around looking for cash?? Super creepy.

I think only to me, at least from what I could tell. He got back into his gf's car when I told him no. I'm not sure if he drove down a little ways to his direct neighbors though.
  • Really strange. I'm a total soft touch, though. I probably would have given him a few bucks but not told anyone.

I guess a few bucks would be different, but he specifically asked for $20 or more.
  • That is super weird. What the heck.

I might have given him a few bucks because I th I k if he is asking for it then he obviously needs it. But specifically asking for $20 is weird. Wonder what the situation was.

Beyond odd.  I would have felt bad, but incredibly creeped out at the same time.

ETA:  Did the house sell yet or is it still on the market?

  • That would make me super uneasy. I would also call the non-emergency police line.

It has not sold yet. As far as I know, the parents are the sole beneficiaries of the sale, so I doubt this neighbor will receive much, if anything at all.
