How long does it take your LO to go to sleep at night?

Since we've had a bedtime routine, bedtime has been 8 pm. I've been noticing for about a month now, when he goes down at 8, I can hear him talking/singing/playing on the monitor for about an hour until he actually goes to sleep around 9ish. He's not screaming or crying or whining to get out, just seems to be entertaining himself and maybe unwinding. He gets up between 6:45 - 7:30, and usually takes about a 2 hour nap most afternoons, that he quiets down quickly for.

Does your LO stay awake long after they've been put to bed?

LO usually falls asleep pretty quick, about 5-10 minutes. She lays there sucking her thumb and rubbing her head. She is a crappy napper and only get about 1 hour a day on average, plus she wakes up by 6 am. I think those two things make her exhausted by 8 pm so she goes to sleep pretty quick.

Hmmm...sounds like we're the odd balls. I hate to move bedtime back, partially for selfish reasons (with the new baby I get to go to bed sooner), but partially because I feel like he's at least resting?

You can tell he's tired when we put him down - before we start our routine, he's running around the house or outside like a hellion doing things he knows he shouldn't because he's so exhausted. He never fights any part of the routine, and goes down with no problems, so I don't know what the answer is.

One night Cooper will go right to sleep, others it's a struggle. I have no idea why. Also some nights she wakes up hollering for milk but others she will sleep through. She's hard to predict

@hokiemama06 - There are some nights where Anna will sit in her crib and talk to herself for an hour (sometimes longer) before she falls asleep too. Like your LO she isn't crying - just kind of hanging out, singing, talking, etc. She is in bed by 8 pm and gets up at 7:30 am. Some nights she falls asleep after 5 minutes, some nights it takes an hour. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it and since she isn't crying, I try not to worry about it too much. I think she just needs time to wind down some nights.

Bedtime for my LO's is at 8pm. Before the time change, it would take Emma up to an hour to sleep. She was like your LO, just laying in bed rolling around, playing with her stuffed animals until she finally drifted to sleep. We used to rock her to sleep and she doesn't use a paci so I think that's just her way of soothing herself. Since the time change though I've noticed she goes down in about 20 min with less tossing and turning. Liam has always gone down in 5-10 minutes. This is night time though, naps at home are another story...

Anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour, depending on his mood. He often does the same thing - reading, talking to himself, counting things on the wall, etc. Once it gets too dark for him to see things, he generally goes to sleep.

Usually no more than 5 minutes, unless he's teething or just not tired enough then it's a good hour fight. I wont even try to get him to sleep unless he's past his point of sleepiness.

Thanks for the input ladies! I never really thought of it as his wind down time, since we do the routine to help with winding down from the day, but it makes sense. I think we'll leave it alone for now, and if it becomes a real problem with crying and such, we'll re-evaluate.

ETA: We have a later bedtime. Bath starts at 8:00 and she's tucked in by 8:30 usually.

This is us too, but I have a monitor just in case. Between 8:30-9 is bedtime.
