I started lovenox injections today after seeing a hematologist yesterday. The hematologist ran his own blood work , which we get back in 2 weeks (I think that's what he said) and told me in the meantime to start lovenox and higher dose of folate. Of course now I am worried I am starting too late for it to be helpful, but at least it's something (and the awful PgAL brain is saying,"Well, we can always stay on the higher dose of folate/start earlier on lovenox for next time.") I know there is a lot of questions about whether the MTHFR gene is related to loss, especially since the rest of my levels are normal, but I guess the RE figured we'd be better off being proactive than not.

Anyway, just curious when you started on lovenox and why. And also how long you'll be on it. Any advice? I have no problem giving myself the injection or the burning sensation that resulted, but very worried with my active job how it will affect me. Obviously I will take all precautions and take it as long as needed, but there is a part of me that wishes I had confirmation this is needed.

On the plus side, no spotting in 48 hours now!

I started Lovenox injections early in my second trimester after some repeated blood work showed that I have Protien S deficiency. Apparently this bloodwork was normal prior to conceiving. I too, was worried that I was starting it too late. At this point we've now moved on to twice a day Heparin injections...so I've made it this far.

I don't have experience with MTHFR, but one of my good friends has that gene and they only prescribed her extra folate, not Lovenox. I believe she just continued with baby Aspirin.

Thanks all! I'm hoping the lovenox was prescribed just in case and when my bloodwork comes back, I'll know if it is necessary. I'm a little nervous because I work with horses for a living, so always a risk of injury.

I'm also nervous that I started the higher folate dosage too late as well. Up until now, I've been on a prescription pre-natal that consisted of 1mg folic acid. I've also been on low dose aspirin. Hematologist has me on 2mg of folate.

My mom sees a hematologist due to DVTs so she asked about my case. She does not have the MTHFR gene. Her Dr. said without other protein deficiencies, probably not an issue. I wish I had seen him or this hematologist when I first got the MTHFR diagnosis before TTC, but trying not to stress and just remain optimistic!

I *potentially* have antiphospholipid syndrome but got pregnant before we could do the 12 week follow-up confirmation blood test. I've been on baby aspirin and extra folate since I found out the results of my bloodwork a few weeks ago. I'm only 4 weeks 3 days now, but my RE wants me to start Lovenox around 5.5 weeks. The reason for starting then is to confirm that the pregnancy is in the uterus and not ectopic, because if it were ectopic and you were on Lovenox, it could cause a lot of problems with bleeding he said. So I'll be joining the Lovenox club next week so long as we see a gestational sac :-)

That's what my RE had said-we would wait to ensure pregnancy in uterus before exploring lovenox since I have history of EP.
