Things You Should Never Say to a Pregnant Lady

I saw this today and sent it to my DH...he immediately apologized for already saying half of the things on the list :) Pretty funny! Feel free to pass on or add if your partner has said anything terrible!

Re: Things You Should Never Say to a Pregnant Lady

  • With my ds my fil told me when I was 6 months that I was getting fat.

  • When I was pregnant with DD, a lady I work with told me it looked like I was carrying the baby in my butt (I'll admit my rear did get big). She is well known for making rude comments, but I still gave her a huge side eye.
  • How about rude things strangers do/say? Examples: touch your belly, I am NOT ok with strangers touching me. Or saying, whoa! Must be twins! Or anything assuming you're due sooner than you are because you're "about to pop!"
  • My DH ask me when the last time was that I got my eyebrows and lip waxed!!!! Said - I think you're overdue! I almost cut his head off with my death stare! I normally can go 3-4 weeks between waxing but between the hormones and prenatals it's looking like I'm gonna need it every two weeks. But I wasn't even at 3 weeks when he said it!

  • @richardsj2‌ - oh she totally deserved more than just the side eye, but she is always making rude comments and I have learned the best thing to do is ignore her. She is always trying to start crap in the office, so everyone has learned the best way to handle it is to try not to talk to her at all.
  • Reading that really had me laughing

Oh my word, I would be so upset if someone said "must be twins," how dumb do you have to be?!

When I was about 21 weeks and first wearing maternity shirts, I had a random guy at work tell me that I was "huge" and that my baby would be born any day, not when I was due.  If DS had been born that early, there would be no chance of survival....just what I wanted to hear someone saying.

Early second tri, DH hugged me, and came back with this grin on his face and said "Wow, those HAVE gotten bigger!"

My ex boss (we moved) constantly commented on how tired I looked.

This time around, DH has already popped off with "Well, I can always drink your share of booze for you at family gatherings til we tell people!"
A colleague told me that the other day. I gave her hell for it. I said "oh thanks! that's always nice to hear..." When did people decide that was an appropriate thing to say? Even if I do look tired, I don't need your commentary on it, thanks!

  • The other day our family went to a baby shower.  The mommy to be was about 35 weeks along and pretty pettite.  My daughter looked at her and then looked back at me.  I explained that she had a baby in her belly and we are here to celebrate that.  She promptly says wow, that must be a big baby cause she's HUGE!  Does she have two babies in her tummy cause she is really big!

I felt a little bad but I also found it very funny as well.  I guess my daughter doesn't have much experience around pregnant women... can't wait to hear what she says to me as my tummy grows!
