s/o DC gifts...

Our center is taking up a collection for all of the teachers and asking for $25 per family. Its completely optional, of course. DS has been in a new room since the beginning of march and i LOVE his new teachers. She has literally been the make or break for me keeping him there vs pulling him out and looking for a nanny. She is truly wonderful. That being said, its been about 6 weeks and i dont know her THAT well on a personal level. Would you just go with the group collection and give $25, or would you do something on your own to show the special appreciation? She is so good to my little man and he is so happy there, so I definitely want to show my own appreciation, but I would have no clue what to even get her?

I would just contribute to the group gift at whatever amount you are comfortable with.

My daycare is asking $5 per family for a catered lunch, but I will also get a small gift (probably Wawa gift cards for each teacher) about $10/each for 2 teacher per kid. So personally I wish I could just pay $25 and call it a day instead of the $45 I'm going to spend.

I think I would contribute to the group gift at the suggested $25 rate and then write a thank you card to the teacher letting her know you notice and greatly appreciate her work.

I agree with contributing with the group and the thank you card. Whether 25 Bucks is a lot or a little will of course depend on the family, but I feel that if you can swing it then it's the easy, can't go wrong option, which I love.
