Feeling overly stressed

At my A/S I was told I had complete placenta Previa and of coarse I went into total panic. Since then I have become worried about everything!
I also have a daughter who will be 2.5 in May and he talking isn't the best. She's exposed to 2 languages and so her talking is taking longer. Her DR isn't worried at all, but because I'm stressed over my placenta I have now started to worry about her.
I feel like I become stressed and worried over everything lately!

Anyone else feeling stressed? How are you dealing with it?

Thx :)

Re: Feeling overly stressed

  • I'm a FTM so I can't help with the previa thing, but I will say that my niece is 2.5 and is being raised in Germany by my (English-speaking) brother and his (spanish-speaking) ex wife. Both of them are nearly fluent in German as well, but were advised by their pediatrition to speak to her exclusively in their native languages, so she wouldn't get confused. It has taken her a bit longer to talk, and when I saw her at Christmas she occasionally combines the languages in weird ways, (the most adorable being that she is a toddler whose favorite word is no.. but she says "Nein Nein Nein") but she understands just about everything, and has a fairly extensive vocabulary. I think your daughter is lucky she's learning 2 languages :)

My niece has also picked up words from daycare.. If you try to play with her toy, she says "MINA!" :)

  • It's totally normal, and expected, for children growing up bilingual to be slower in both languages for a while. Don't worry about that, and don't stop with the two languages. It's so good for the brain!

I have vasa previa with this pregnancy, so I know how stressful that is. I'm managing by focusing on how grateful I am that we now have the technology to make that diagnosis. If we were in pre-ultrasound days, we'd be totally screwed! Since we know, we can manage it. Thank God!

You are completely right! Thank God for advanced Technology!
  • Sorry to hear about you placenta previa, my SIL had it so I partly can understand.

As for your daughter, don't stress about this. If she is being raised bilingual it will take her a little longer. Research has proven it.

  • Sorry to hear about the placenta previa.

About your daughter though, don't worry at all! There have actually been several studies that show that bilingual learners from birth do have fewer words that they say initially, but by the time they are 5 or 6 they can use the same amount of words as a kid who only learned one language and they can do that with both languages. It is also very common for them to mix the two languages together for a couple of years. The delay in language development that your daughter has is perfectly "normal" and typical of her situation. But it will be awesome in the end when she can speak two languages!!
