I requested a new nurse

I was so pissed over my nurse at the RE's office sugarcoating H's SA and talking to me like I was a child that I called and asked that I be assigned to a different nurse coordinator.  I haven't really cared for her from the get go, I don't feel like we mesh well.  So of course now I'm second guessing myself.  Do you guys think I overreacted?

 Hashimoto's with irregular cycles  DH- 37 Severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia

TTC since May 2012

HSG- all clear

March 2014 - RE appt. 
April 2014- Saline sono all's good, terrible SA results - 8 sperm found all abnormal
May 2014- Fert Urology- Bilateral varicoceles, recommend Donor Sperm
12/2014-  Surprise natural BFP  EDD 7/31/15 Plan:  Starting foster to adoption, natural cycles

    IF is so hard by itself and having a  nurse/doctor who doesn't work well with you just makes things harder.  If working with a different nurse will make the process even a tiny bit less stressful for you and your DH then you absolutely did the right thing.  You should not second guess yourself for being your own advocate and following what's best for you.  I hope you have better luck with your new nurse :)

    Nov 14: 100mg clomid + ovidrel + B2B IUI#4=slow response, bad lining, cancelled
    FU with RE, more bloodwork: Anticardiolipin +
    Dec 14: 5mg Letrozole+baby aspirin +ovidrel + B2B IUI#4.1=BFFN
    Jan '15: 5mg Letrozole +baby aspirin + ovidrel +B2B IUI #5= BFP!!

    Good for you! A good fit is important. Maybe someone else would feel better with the "sweeties" and the sugar-coating, but it's not worth more stress. It's hard sometimes, especially for women, to be assertive instead of feeling like we need to make everyone else happy all the time...so you can be proud of yourself! :)

    That's not an overreaction. I basically kicked my first RE to the curb for the same reasons. Treating me like I was an uneducated child who couldn't understand the complexities of my condition. As a patient you deserve to be treated like a logical adult and not be outright lied to (because that's what she did). I hope your next nurse is much better.

    No, if you have the option, I would!  You want someone that will be open with you and tell it how it is!  Hope your new nurse is better!!

    Aug 2013 - SA: Counts & Motility = great, Morph = 1%; RE didn't seem too concerned

    Me: 26
    Jan. 2014 - Blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = high & AMH = low (0.73)
    Feb. 6, 2014 - Repeat blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = normal & AMH = low (0.9)
    Feb.  20, 2014 - First appointment with RE
    Feb. 24, 2014 - HSG scheduled;  DX:  one tube definitely open & one tube could be blocked
    Mar. 7, 2014 - CD 21 Blood work for Progesterone; DX:  Progesterone level at 5.2; shows I ovulated but was low
    Mar. 28, 2014 - Laparoscopy; DX:  Tubes open.  Found some endometriosis and had that removed.
     
    History:
    Started TTC:  June 2012
    June 2012 - March 2013:  When it Happens/it happens method = BFN
    March 2013:  Started using Fertility Friend
    Cycles 1 - 15 with Fertility Friend = BFN
    Cycle 16 - Benched due to Laparoscopy
    Cycle 17 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 18 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 19 - Natural Cycle = BFN
     

    Current Cycle:
    Cycle 20 = Natural Cycle

    It's important to like (or at least trust) your nurse coordinator. I loved my nurse coordinator with my clinic. She was always quick to return emails or phone calls. I like my nurse coordinator for my donor embryo clinic, but I think she is overworked (I believe she runs their egg donor and donor embryo program). It can take her up to 24 hours to return a phone call. When you do get to talk to her she is super nice and helpful.

    September 2012: Start IF testing

    DH (32): SA is ok, slightly low morph, normal SCSA  Me (32): Slightly low progesterone, hostile CM, carrier for CF, Moderately high NKC, High TNFa, heterozyogous mutated Factor XIII, and +APA

    October 2012-May 2014: 4 failed IUIs, 3 failed IVFs, and 1 failed FETw/donor embryos

    November 2014: IVF w/ICSI #4 Agonist/Antagonist with EPP and Prednisone, Baby Aspirin, Lovenox, and IVIG for immune issues.  Converted to freeze all due to lining issues.  2 blasts frozen on day 6!

    January 2015: FET #2 Cancelled due to lining issues

    April 2015: FET #2.1

    I don't think you overacted at all. You want to work with someone you mesh well, and hopefully it wont be for too long :)

    I do not think you over-reacted at all. No one is going to advocate for you but YOU. You are not stupid and you need to know what is going on so you can make the right decisions. A nurse who is going to keep you in the dark is no good.

    Slowly rising betas - Ectopic suspected on 8/8/14 & confirmed on 8/11/14
    Methotrexate on 8/12/14 -HCG negative on 9/2/14
    IVF #1- November- Antagonist protocol: 11/1: start stims, 200iu of Follistim; 11/12 ER 17R/14M/14F; 11/17 5 day transfer of two blasts, 2 blasts and 2 expanding morulas frozen; 11/22 BFP!! (On FRER at 5dp5dt)
    Betas: 9dp5dt 205, 11dp5dt 497, 14dp5dt 1,709
    u/s at 5w0d- 1 sac; u/s at 6w0d 1 baby with heartbeat, another sac without a heartbeat

    Absolutely not!!! I love my nurse and my doctor. I had a different doctor one day (when you go in for monitoring you get whoever is on staff) and she was cold and essentially ended up making me pay $800 for meds i didnt need. I was so glad to be back to my regular doctor/team after that. Good luck!!!

    You didn't overreact!  Good for you for speaking up and getting it done.  Now, you might end up with an awesome nurse!  Never settle.  :)
