Swelling - Wedding Ring on or off yet?

Are your hands starting to swell up? Are you able to wear your rings still? I am noticing my rings are getting tighter and are uncomfortable by the end of the day. I've been taking them off to sleep at night, and am starting to consider not wearing it anymore....I'm 24 weeks and know it will get worse from here, definitely don't want to end up having to get it cut off! Just wondering who else is dealing with this, and if they've decided to forego any rings going forward.

Re: Swelling - Wedding Ring on or off yet?

  • Hmmm I havent really started swelling at all.  I am just 17 weeks though.  The idea of wearing them on a necklace is a good one.

  • I lost so much weight just before getting pregnant that my rings were actually getting a bit big!
I don't really wear them everyday... but when I do put them on. They still fit... once they don't fit I'll just leave them off until the baby comes.
  • Only 14 weeks and they still fit!

  • Still fitting so far, when they get uncomfortable I will take them off. I have infinity tattoo on my ring finger, so that will have to do.

  • 21 weeks and barely got mine off. I'll have to buy a chain to wear them 'round my neck:)
  • I am a little over 17 weeks and mine still fit great.  I have always taken my rings off to sleep at night anyways, so I can't imagine sleeping with them on.  I am hoping I can wear them for much longer, but we'll see.

  • I'm 16 weeks tomorrow, and while my fingers swell overnight, within 2 hours of awakening they are just fine.

  • 20 weeks and they're starting to get uncomfortable. I'll probably just get them resized, both now and after the baby arrives.
  • I've been lucky this pregnancy. I can still wear them with no problems. (I'm 37 weeks) I took them off during my first pregnancy around the 34th week. But the difference is is I've only gained 21lbs so far. I gained 45 with my son.
  • My EDD is 10 days away and i've only taken them off today. Mine are slightly loose normally and i only noticed an imprint in the skin today, so i thought i'd best take them off.

  • 26 weeks today and mine still fit just fine, i have managed to wear them throughout all of my pregnancies.  i would be devestated to have to take them off as i never do.
  • Mine were starting to feel tight a few weeks ago, so I took them off because I was afraid to have to get them cut off. Plus, I got really swollen in the hospital from all the fluids, so I didn't want to go into labor and forget to take them off.

  • While normally I would agree that resizing rings often might not be a wise move, the warranty on my rings is such that I could literally attack them with a hammer and they'd be completely replaced, so I'm not overly worried about it. Thanks for reminding me to keep that in mind though!
  • 26 weeks here and there are days where my rings fit and others (usually when i dont drink enough water) that they get tight. Today i just started leaving my engagement ring at home and wearing only my wedding band as that has always been looser on me. Hopefully at least that will fit for the remainder of the pregnancy!

  • 21 weeks here and mine still fit normally. Down the road I will probably start taking them off at night just to be safe.
  • 19 weeks and still fitting loose. I lost some weight between engagement and baby so they have been loose for awhile. When my hands are cold I sometimes put them on my middle finger if I'm worried about them slipping off. Sounds like i may only have a few more weeks to worry about that though!

  • My ring still fits fine, though I do take it off every night because of some issues I had 2 years ago.  Now I'm in the practice of taking it off every night, and putting it back on promptly in the morning, and all good!  If I were encountering trouble during the day with swelling, though, I'd probably keep it off to be on the safe side.  I already had to have the ring cut off once...never again if I have a say in it!

  • If you don't take off your ring now make sure you take it off during labor. I had an IV of fluids and there is no way I would have been able to get my ring off. My hands were extremely swollen. But I think I took my ring off at 35 weeks last time.

  • @mrsH1112‌ I'm 17 weeks and mine are too tight by the evening as well.

I am so upset about not wearing my ring!! However, I went on qvc.com and ended up getting a fake tacori, platinum clad ring for $50 that I love. It's also great to wear when you're not preg, but vacationing out of the country so you don't have to worry about your real diamond.

Some days I panic a little when I try to take it off, but other days its fine. I wore it the whole pregnancy with my first 4 babies, but this time it may not go the distance :/

  • Still wearing mine, but I check daily to make sure it's not getting to snug.  With DS I was able to wear my rings the entire time without any issues.

I haven't taken my wedding band off in a year, I should have paid some attention to swelling because I can't take mine off now.  If it's getting uncomfortable I'd stop wearing it and put it on a nice chain.  I should have done that.

  • No major swelling yet..just a little in my feet.  Will be 16 weeks on Sunday, so as soon as I can tell it's getting pretty snug it'll move to my necklace!  Good luck! :)
  • Mine are off already @ 20w. It feels weird not to wear them!

  • Mine are still fitting fine.Occasionally they will feel tight but its ususally if I consume a lot of sodium. I would be so nervous to wear it on a necklace fearing it would break and i would lose my ring and not know it.

I lost weight during 1st trimester so i can actually wear my ring now :) But my ankles have been swelling..... After a few days of not really going down I drank fresh coconut water and the next day they were back to normal!!!! (I'm 21 weeks)
  • Mine started feeling tight 3rd tri. I took it off!

    It's a BOY

  • Still on most of the time.  I take them off at night, but unless i have a super salty meal I'm not swelling enough to prohibit wearing my rings... yet.  Keeping a close watch though.

  • Still on at 16 weeks. Fingers seem to swell overnight when I sleep, but it goes away after I get up and move around.

  • I'd leave it off :(
  • I'm 37 weeks and they are still on. I took them off during my first pregnancy around 34w.
  • Still on! But my feet are swelling.

  • I'm 20 weeks and mine still fit great. I'm dreading the day I can't wear them, I take them off every night but feel naked without them during the day. I will probably wear a plain band that's a size bigger when my rings don't fit anymore.

  • Mine don't fit at all. However, I bought a nice fake set from Target that I wear. I got a size larger than my wedding rings and they feel very comfortable. I had to since I feel naked without anything on my ring finger! :)
  • ring is still on!!!
  • I'm at 21 weeks and took mine off this week because they were getting way too tight. I just put on another, bigger ring that I have on my ring finger and have my wedding band and engagement ring in a safe place for after the baby comes and they fit again.
  • 24 weeks, still wearing mine

  • Had to take my wedding set off @ 36 weeks. I've been wearing a little gold band with little channel set diamonds. I love it! It's so simple and comfortable.

  • My hands started to swell up a few weeks ago so I just put my wedding rings on a necklace that way I always have them with me but don't have to worry about them cutting off circulation in my fingers.
  • I'm 18w5d and my rings have been tight for the last two-three weeks.  I was considering wearing them on a chain, but I am so nervous I will lose them that way/the chain would break. Hubby and I decided to buy a ring in my birthstone that will fit my swollen fingers.  Found one at Kohls for about $50 during one of their 60% off jewlery sales- london blue topaz in silver.  The chain would have cost at least that.  Only snag is they come in 7 standard (normally a 7.5-need an 8.5) but they will size them for free (takes about 6 weeks).  For now, I am lotioning my hand to get the rings on and off but if the weather gets a little warmer I may need to go bare for a week or two. Wish me luck!
