Clingy animals?

My cats have been so clingy since I've been pregnant, they must be able to tell. The one that always sleeps elsewhere is now sleeping in the bed next to me every night! I've had 2 beside me & one on top of me (as I'm sleeping on my side!) every night! Anyone else have overly clingy pets during pregnancy? I hope they're not so clingy to the LO!

Re: Clingy animals?

  • DH and I have two dogs (we each had one prior to living together/getting married). Our girl (who is 'mine' per say) has been clingier than usual. She always sat with me and loves to snuggle, but it's been amplified since I've been pregnant. Almost like she NEEDS to sit with the belly. Most of the time it's really cute because she'll rest her face on my belly, but sometimes it get to be too much. Our boy always hung with DH, but lately he's been insistent on sitting with me more. I'm curious to see how they are with LO.

  • Yeah, my dog whines and cries till I let him up on my lap.  He has always been a snuggler, but now he just goes insane if I'm away from him for long, and must be ON me at all times when I am at home.  Silly puppy.

  • I have two 2-yr old cats, brother an sister. They're awesome, and they've always been snugly and very affectionate. Now that im pregnant they cant get enough of me. But I've noticed over the past month they've gotten even clingier!! To the point I feel like screaming at times!! They're always at my feet and I'm constantly stepping and tripping over them. I get home from work and they swarm me whining and meowing to be held (they actually throw themselves back in my arms like infants who want to be cradled). Then they get into this trance-like purring frenzy and their tails get really big, and they want to rub on my boobs or my belly. I love them to pieces, but it's starting to get to me. I hope they calm down once baby is born. It's a little creepy.
  • My cat (male) is driving me crazy lately.  He did this with both other pregnancies.  It really gets to be too much, especially with him licking me and digging me with his claws when he's happy.

  • I have a male cat (6 yrs old). He generally sleeps in bed with us. I have noticed that he likes to lay with me WAY MORE when we are watching TV in the family room but when we go to bed, he doesn't sleep with us much anymore.

We did just get some new furniture in the family room about 2 weeks ago, so I don't know if this is a factor of why he isn't sleeping with us or what. But I'm not complaining I need my space. lol

  • Here is Buddy. This is what he pretty much does everyday. Ever since I've become pregnant he's been doing this.

  • My 11 year old girl cat used to want to sit near people, maybe against your leg on the couch or just within petting distance.  Now she's on my lap as soon as I sit on the couch.  She just lies there and purrs.  She doesn't interact with the belly that much, but she loves my lap.

My 5 year old boy cat used to be on my lap all the time, but now the girl cat has taken over.  He's been doing this super cute thing the last couple of days where he'll lay on the top of the couch next to me and put his head on my shoulder and purr.

  • My cat, male, 12 years old, has been very clingy.  DH thinks that it is bad for baby for the cat to be close to my face, so throughout the night it is a war between the cat and DH.  The cat scotches up closer and closer to my face, and DH moves the cat back down towards my feet.
The cat will also try and lay on my belly (I think that he likes being able to hear my pulse) and that freaks DH out, saying that the little, not even 10 lb cat is squishing the baby.

  • My dog has always been clingy, so there is no change there! She's like my shadow. We recently had to put our Rottweiler to sleep so I have noticed a difference now that she is the only dog in the house. I feel so bad and spoil her way more than I should but I can't help it! ;) I work at a vets office and it is interesting to see the behavior of some of the animals there. I can tell some of them sense I am pregnant and others...nothing! It's funny. My boss brings her dog to work almost everyday and he has been my new BFF :)

It would drive me nuts if my H kept doing that! I love my kitty cuddles :)

Also, yesterday he tossed one of our cats on me when I was laying in bed at 6:30 am. She's only 9lbs but landed on my stomach. He got some choice words from that, let me tell you!! This baby is coming out with a paw print on his/her forehead now lol

Oh it does drive me nuts, but the cat always comes right back, and will meow very loudly at DH.  It generally ends up being quite the amusing scene and I get a good laugh watching the 2 of them.

  • Everyone kept asking me if I felt like our dog knew I was pregnant and he just isn't all that smart or intuitive and I thought he had no idea. Then, in the last few weeks he's been a lot more cuddly with me and wanting to be near me all the time. So maybe it just took him a while.

Also, not really related but it was really funny. The other morning he was laying curled up next to my belly and one of the twins kicked really hard and he felt it. He jumped up and looked at my stomach and was so confused. It was pretty funny!
