Trouble TTC

newbie with one blocked fallopian tube

Hey ladies,

I've been lurking for a while, so I am finally coming out.  I've had three ectopic pregnancies in my left tube in the early 2000's, and haven't gotten pregnant since then 2004.  I had one hsg in 2008 that concluded both tubes were blocked then another in 2010 that confirmed left tube blockage and the right open with a delayed free spill.  My RE says I can get pregnant with one tube (unblocked right tube) and I've had follie scans over the past five months. The dominate follicle developed on the right side three months in a row. Timed intercourse was right on, but all BFN.  I am getting discouraged.  Is any one else in a similar situation? I may have to progress to IUI or IVF soon.  Any advice or success stories would be great.  Thanks for listening ladies and good luck to all.

Three ectopic preganacies in left tube in 1999, 2003 and 2004. HSG in 2010 concluded left tube blockage. IUI with femara in 2012 BFN. IVF #1 June 2013, 20 retreived, 14 mature, 12 fertilized via ICSI, one transferred, four frozen, BFN.  FET in September 2013 - BFN:( FET #2 April 2014 - BFP!!!!

Re: newbie with one blocked fallopian tube

  • I have a blocked right tube.  And my right ovary has never been seen on any u/s I have had.  The good thing is my left has been producing follies.  I did 3 rounds clomid + IUI and 3 rounds injects + IUI, all BFNs.  We are moving to IVF at this point.  My RE does not feel it has to do with my right tube being blocked.  They have all said that you only need one.  GL to you!

  • When I had my HSG, my left tube was blocked, but it turned out I had endometriosis and adhesions all over the place. I had surgery to remove them, and the left was opened up with the dye test while I was under. So, while yes you can get pregnant with one tube, I am wondering if it is possible you have endometriosis? Having endo can also make it more difficult to get pregnant even with open tubes.

  • Hi and welcome! It was confirmed earlier this month that my left tube is blocked, and we're moving to IUI's to increase our chances. It's a personal decision, as my RE was not against us trying another cycle of TI, but we've already tried for 19 cycles so I was ready to move on.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  • I too share your apprehension, I am new to the forums and this is my first post.  I doc put me on clomid cycle days 5-9 with no luck.  My DH just got tested in March and his sperm seems to be "Super Sperm" high count and mobility. So my doc scheduled me for a Laparoscopy today April 23/2014. Turns out that both of my tubes were completely twisted and blocked up. One he was able to straighten out and clear any blockage. The second unfortunately is wrapped around my intestine and there was nothing he could do for it. He reassures us that we can still get pregnant with one fallopian tube, but it will take more time. I am worried about what those chances are and if I can still get pregnant, how long I should wait before taking the next steps, whatever that may be.  If anyone has any helpful advice or similar stories, please share, it would be greatly appreciated! Good Luck to all!!
  • @Babyboo815‌ welcome. I'm sorry to hear your one tube is still wrapped/blocked, but glad your doc was able to straighten out the other one. All of the previous posts were from April 2011. You can read the signatures/tickers to see that most of the ladies got pregnant, from either IUI, IVF, or naturally. I hope that your doctor can recommend a good plan for you and your DH. My diagnosis is different from yours, so I can't offer any advice, only well wishes.

  • Welcome, and I'm so sorry about your ectopics and your tube.

It sounds like you've had 3 good tries at TI, so I guess it would be up to your timetable and finances whether you would move on to IUI or try a few more TI. Good luck whatever you choose!

  • Welcome, and so sorry for your losses.

My left tube is blocked, and since we also have MFI, we moved right to IUI. We did 3 cycles, and I ovulated on the right side 2 of the 3. However, all 3 cycles were BFN. We are now moving on to IVF ICSI to try to bypass all of our issues.

    Good Luck!

  • Welcome!

    Me: 32  DH: 33  Married: March 2004

    July 2006: started TTC
2008: HSG (normal), couple rounds of clomid through gyno
2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary

July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

    IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN
    IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
    IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
    IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN

May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis

May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
    IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
    October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
    November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5

November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
    December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)

    IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(
