We make all of our food for him because we like knowing exactly what is in it and using fresh ingredients.  But I don't see anything wrong with store-bought food; it just wasn't for us.

  • We did a mix but are on strictly table food now.

  • Store bought. I have never made her any puréed foods. It wasn't worth the time for me. I spend enough time pumping and washing bottles.

  • I made all of his fruit and veggie purees, but bought his meats because it was so much easier.
Now that he is bigger and starting to actually chew, I buy Applegate organic and nitrate free lunch meat for him on the nights when I am not cooking something he likes.

I personally don't think making your own food is that much  better. It was what I was comfortable with and it was what I chose to do because it worked for me.
  • He mostly eats what we eat. He'll get a pouch for lunch if I'm not having anything for lunch. And he gets 1/3 of a jar of fruit in his oatmeal for breakfast. I also send jars of food over to his grandparents house when they have him on Tuesdays. I attempted to make his food but gave up.

  • I'm just going to leave this here - not trying to start anything. A dietician told me if you buy baby food to at least make the meat yourself. She said they use meat parts that you wouldn't want them to...I have no idea how true it is and I was planning on and did make the baby food. No judgement from me whether you feed homemade or store bought!

  • I make most of his food, but definitely utilize frozen veggies and fruit along with fresh. I bought a few fruit pouches (Ella's red one and yellow one) and use them to mix with plain yogurt. As for meat, he eats what we eat, without as much seasoning usually.

  • We did both.  I used to make purees every weekend or so and freeze into cubes or into pouches. But on days when we were going to be out and about or when we took weekend trips, I would take store bought pouches because it did not need to be refrigerated. I also did store bought prune purees because I didn't know how to go about finding fresh plums during the winter. Now he is mostly on table food; whatever we eat or whatever I prepare for him at home. He still gets fruit purees mixed in with his plain greek yogurt but is mostly off of other purees.

  • We did both.  I ended up really liking the Nuturme Organic dry baby food.  It's veggies, etc in powdered form.  It can be mixed with breast milk, formula, water, or even yogurt.  We mixed it mostly with breast milk and yogurt, and it worked out great.

Occasionally, I'd make my own purees.  Mostly bananas and avocados.  Now we've moved onto table food but supplement with purees as needed since he hates to touch wet foods.
  • We did a mix but he only eats table food now. I even have some gerber graduate toddler meals on hand for emergencies. When we go out to dinner I almost always take a toddler veggie or fruit

  • I made all his meat and veggies and bought most of his fruit purees but I usually only bought ones with veggies too.  Except pear I bought that on its own because it is his favourite and we use it to bribe when needed.

  • DH was insistent on making our veggie/fruit purées when we started her on solids, but we never did meat purée. We did a mix of purées and self feeding. She turns her nose up at purées now. She self feeds and eats what we eat.

  • LO never really ate any purée at all. When he first started food I would just mash up fruits and vegetables for him. For the past few months he really wants no part in anything he cannot feed himself. My in laws bought him some baby food and it is still sitting in my pantry. The only thing we have used is some pouches in the early days when we were out and about. I also sometimes threw some berries or fruit in my magic bullet to mix in with his cereal.
