Waking in the middle of the night

There is no pattern to it...just some nights I am wide awake....seems like it is always at least for an hour and a half or more. I used to lay there but that would just piss me off, so tonight I decided to be productive! I am catching up here & running some laundry. Anyone else awake at all hours? What do you do?

Re: Waking in the middle of the night

  • I'm always awake. Although, I am not choosing to be productive! ;) I just lay down and read until I can fall back to sleep. It's the only time I have to read anyways!

  • Normally my medicine kicks in and I fall asleep pretty quickly. But last night I could not fall asleep to save my life and after a few hours I woke up and was wide awake. I tried just staying in bed and pretending to be tired and eventually I just got up and got into work early.

  • Fingers crossed but I'm still sleeping pretty well so far.  With DS1 I remember getting out of bed to organize my closet in the middle of the night.  LOL DH had already moved to the guest room by that point because he couldn't take all my tossing and turning.

  • Ugh. YES. I think it is more stress related lately, the past 2 weeks I have been lucky to get 3-4 hrs a night. It's so bad. I actually wished to be exhausted like I was in the first trimester where I could sleep for days at a time.. My mind races all night and I have tried everything, reading, tv, laundry, etc. Most of the time I end up in the kitchen eating, or laying in bed watching tv for hours on end. I hope this is just a phase and it ends soon!

  • I wake if I have to pee (usually 2 or 3 times) if I don't get up & go I'm up for a while, but if I go usually I fall right back. The thing with me is, I don't feel like I have to go, so I'm just starting to realize I need to get up & go.

If I wake up and cannot fall back asleep then I will get up and sew, read, make nachos, etc. Usually I pass out pretty quick though.
    Bring me those nachos!

I'm too lazy to actually do anything.  I just lie in bed and get pissed.

  • Between getting up with our 19 month old (who has been sick and going through a sleep regression) and getting up to pee I feel like I am up all night! I'm just practicing for not getting any sleep when the new baby arrives :-)

  • I wake up a lot just to adjust positions, but Sunday I was up from 3-4am for no reason. I do better on the nights where I get a little exercise in.
  • I had a solid two weeks of being awake from 2ish-5ish and my sister recommended I look into essential oils. I know it sounds ridic, but every night my husband and I both rub pure coconut oil mixed with a few drops of organic lavender oil on our feet and put on socks. We've been doing it for three weeks now and since starting neither of us have had a bad night of sleep. I don't care if it's a placebo effect, all that matters is I wake up once a night to pee and I'm immediately back to sleep! I hope it works for you ladies too!!
  • I had it my first pregnancy but not this one. I used to do research in the middle of the night for baby stuff and a new car.

This time I just get up to pee and go straight back to bed. I think having a toddler makes a difference.

  • I have been going through this too lately! I usually read for a bit or try and catch up on my dvr. It's a great opportunity to watch all the shows DH hates, like real housewives ;)

    Yeah, this totally blows.

Anyone have any snack suggestions to keep around that work to get you back to sleep?

ETA: Besides nachos? I have that one on my list now. I don't care if they work or not, just gimme that cheesy goodness.

  • I'm always up for a few hours at night. I grab my phone and take a bath while reading these fourms....it's currently 2am. It helps me go back to sleep.

I do have a toddler...nothin! :) Oh well. Yesterday we walked around the zoo all morning. That worked wonders. I slept ALL NIGHT! :)

  • Yup...the last three nights I have been up for 2+ hours each night. My ankles have swelled and I have had weird, vivid dreams that wake me.
  • Lately, I've been getting up in the middle of the night to pee and when I get back to bed, baby decides it's a great time to start kicking me. While I find the kicks adorable, I really wish that baby would pick a different time to exercise because I can't get to sleep until it stops...

  • I had a lot of issues with this until recently.  If I eat a small snack (even though I don't feel hungry)  I'm back to sleep in 30 minutes or so.  I try to keep nuts by the bed for this.
