****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

Re: Induced Lactation Check-in April 24

  • We are 13w 1d with twins. My partner @manada is carrying.

I'm so excited! I had my consultation yesterday with the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic in Toronto and I now have my plan for inducing lactation.

They want me to have a full physical at my doctor's office before starting the medication, so I have that planned for May 6 and won't start the protocol until then. But in the meantime, I'm excited to know what the plan is.

I will be taking the Ortho 35 combined pill daily (no placebo pills) and Domperidone 3 pills (30mg total in dose) 3 times per day.

The birth control pill (ortho 35) is supposed to give me estrogen and progesterone and the domperidone gives me prolactin.

Then approx 6 weeks before our expected due date (which is up in the air, since we're having twins), I will stop the BCP and start pumping. I will go back in for another consultation closer to that time to get my pumping protocol.

QOTW: So far we have been really lucky to find that people are supportive. I think it helps that most of our community here is queer, so they're more open to doing things a bit different than "normal." I also think that it helps that M is planning to breastfeed too so people can easily see me as "supplemental" even if it is my hope to share equally in the feeding of our babies. I imagine it will really screw with people, though, when we are both out in public breastfeeding and we will probably draw increased attention and commentary.

  • @jalara48, although I intellectually understand that my breasts and nipples will start to change before I'm actively breastfeeding, I think I'm still going to find myself surprised when it actually starts to happen.
Also, I'm not looking forward to nausea, but I think M will be a little bit pleased to not be the only sick on in the house.
I'm glad your nausea is going away somewhat. :)

  • Hey all! As most of you know, we are officially pregnant and I am ready to get started with the protocol! I am so excited! I found a lactation consultant that I like and we will be meeting with her next wednesday.

QOTW: Yes, I fully expect challenges and some pushback. I spent some time last week contacting lactation consultants and got some pretty negative responses which is surprising considering we live in a pretty accepting town. I did get some pretty awesome reponses from one lactaction consultant in particular and she will be who we work with. As far as family I think there will be some pushback from some folks but for the most part I think people will be okay.

Challenges? I am really worried it won't work!!!

  • @healz413‌ I'm so excited for you that you had a good consultation and are going to get started soon!

@jalara48‌ Its a great sign that your breasts are changing so much! Probably tmi but I have always had small breasts that were never sore but on the protocol, I also noticed a marked difference like you are describing. Hopefully it means you will get a nice full supply!

Congrats @firstcomeslove2013‌ ! I'm sorry you had to deal with some negative responses from some LC but I'm glad you found a great one to work with.

As for me, not much to update. I'm still splitting the feedings with J the same way and my supply seem to be keeping up. The girls (especially Vienna) had a really big growth spurt a couple weeks ago an I was really afraid I wasn't going to keep up. I felt like they would drain me really quickly and would fuss. But we stuck it out together and I can tell I'm making more now and not having any problems.

QOTD- I'm honestly not sure yet because all of our family and friends live in the NW and we are here pretty much alone. When the girls were born, there were a couple midwives that "insisted" J only feed the girls for the first couple days because of the colostrum and getting J's supply up. This was unsolicited advice, and we had already planned to do that anyways, so it made me feel a little sensitive. Luckily, our post-partum nurse was amazing and handled it all very well. I do expect my family to make some insensitive comments at some point but I'm trying to remind myself that my babies are happy and healthy and my family(the four of us) loves our two-mom breast feeding setup so the rest doesn't matter :D
My name is A, I am wife to J.  After 7 months of ttc and one MC, we are expecting two baby girls in 2014!

  • No changes for us right now moving on with our second IUI cycle for SO.

QOTW: Are people in your life (do you expect people in your life to be) supportive of you or your partner inducing lactation? Have you faced or do you expect to face challenges in this regard? I have total mixed reactions. One of my sisters totally for it and the other doesn't understand why I would want to go through so much. She even made the comment that her daughter was formula feed and she turned out just fine. I explained my reason isn't just that baby would get breast milk but the bonding that I wanted. When everything happened with me (trying,  no success, 2CP, and then finding the balance translocation) and now my partner trying I want to make sure I have my own bonding time with the baby as I originally planned when I was going to carry. There are a few we haven't told some in my SO side of the family and I am really not looking forward to it. I just cant seem to judge them and how their reaction will be, but this is for me and the baby and no one else.

Challenges: It not working. But, we have decided even if I am not successful with induced lactation I will still be the primary feeder for a while so no matter what I will get the bonding time that I want with baby.

Married in September 2010, started TTC journey November 2012
