sleeping should be getting right right?

In my case, Wrong!

I have a 7 week old LO and she started sleeping well up until last week. Her bedtime routine starts at 9:00pm. We put her down at 9 and she sleeps for about an hour or less. We get her up and she eats and falls asleep but every time we try and put her back in her crib she wakes up screaming. She does that for about 4 hours. I started to think she wasn't eating enough and thats why she was fussy, she is exclusively breastfed.

But why does she fall asleep and only wake up when we put her down. Could she be overly tired?  Any suggestions on what we can do to help her sleep better. Most of my friends so there newborn started sleeping better at 6 to 8 weeks. I feel like mine has gotten worse.

  • What does her sleep look like throughout the rest of the day?  9 is a late bedtime so you could be missing the window where her body is ready to acknowledge it as night and instead jumps to it just being another nap.

  • She sleeps mostly in the morning. for 2-3 hours. thats a good point. Ill move it up to 8:00pm. Hopefully it gets better.

Do you think maybe her days and night or confused? I thought she was a little old for that.

She should also be napping in the afternoon. If she's only napping in the morning, then she overtired and will continue to have fragmented night sleep. At that age, a baby shouldn't be awake for more than 1.5h at a time.

  • Day/night confusion can last up to 8/9 weeks but I don' think that's what's going on. Sounds like she just really wants to be held by you.
