Solution for a hot car seat?

Okay, so it's finally starting to get hot where I live and yesterday I realized I've got a problem. My 13 month old was in shorts as we got into the hot car and the metal buckle was ridiculously hot. It was hard to keep it from touching his skin while I strapped him in.

Any suggestions on a solution? Towel over his car seat? Start the car early? Is there a product any one has tried that keeps the seat cool? I'm a first time mom and am figuring it out as I go!

    I would think you could throw a towel over the seat.  You could also look into Lula Clips to help hold the straps off to the side (they're just magnets that slide under the seat cover) so you only had to worry about one at a time as you strap him in.  I'm having a hard time picturing where the buckles would come in contact with his skin in shorts unless you just mean that one strap flops over as you try to hook the other on in.

    They make little sun shields for car seats, but I've read that a towel or blanket works just as well. We live in the Deep South, so I'm sure we'll be facing this shortly.

    I made my own car seat cooler thing. I think you can buy them on Etsy, but I found a few tutorials online and if you know how to sew at all, it's not hard to do it. Mine does NOT look as pretty as the one on this website…but it works! I keep it in the freezer and just grab it when we go out. When I take LO out of the seat, I put it over the buckles, and it's nice and cool when we get back in. Sort of wish I had one for my seat!
