2nd Trimester

23 weeks and my OBGYN is leaving!

Hello everyone,

This is the first time I have posted on here.  I really need advice.

This is my first pregnancy. I am 23 weeks pregnant, and a few days ago my doctor's office called and informed me that my OBGYN is not seeing patients in the office anymore, and that from now on I will be seeing one of the midwifes in the office.  My normal OBGYN is leaving to take a job in Texas.  I have seen the midwife before, and I like her, but I was prepared for my normal doctor to delivery my baby.  Now I just feel all out of sorts and anxious about this entire thing. What if something happens and I have to have a c-section?  The midwife can't do that, right? So, then what? Should I find a new OBGYN?

Thanks.

Andrea

  • In the practice I go to there is no knowing which OB will deliver your baby. They have 7 that are on rotation at the hospital. For me my primary leaving wouldn't be an issue as I would switch to someone else in the practice. If you're uncomfortable seeing the midwife and not knowing who would do a c-section if needed then look into changing.

  • Agree with PP, while my practice does the same with a rotation of doctors - If I was not comfortable (especially) with my primary assigned doctor/care provider, I would be seeking another practice.
  • I would definitely call and ask to find out who would be available to perform a c-section at your practice.  If you are uncomfortable with the arrangements, I would seek out a new doctor.  Good luck!
  • My doctor does rotation as well, but if I was not comfortable I will look for a different provider, and ask current practice what if you have a c section
