...according to a recent survey (https://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/bizarre-baby/story?id=23439916). Apparently it's pronounced "Zay-Zix" and there are already 5 of them in the US. I'll be the first to say, if you plan on naming your kid Zzyzx, I'll be flaming you.

  • Holy crap. That is terrible. I have a childhood friend that is naming her son K.ix (without the period) and I thought that was bad. What are these people thinking?

  • My sister is a pediatrician she saw a baby named pok'ets pronounced pockets. And I saw on Facebook a Matisen now I know that's a real name but why jack the spelling?

    Like the cereal?
The very same. I cringe every time she posts it.

    OMG...really though?!

I work at a children's hospital and the things we see come through are ridiculous:

    1. Espn
    2. Twins: Orangelo and Lemongelo (Orange Jello and Lemon Jello)
    3. Lilcornell (father's name Cornell)
    4. Eimaj (Mom's name?  Jamie---go ahead, reverse those letters)

Number 4 is how we should all name our daughters!  Mine would be Idnar, and I think it sounds more like a name than Eimaj!

I'm telling you- this is why I fear for our country. My daughter's name per @Rannndi's rule is Haras.

I've come across a kid named Demonique. That was... neat.

I feel like La-a and the jello names started as urban legends and now they're becoming real, and that's a shame. And every time someone tells me they came across one of them, I have to pretend it's novel and funny even though I've heard them like a million times.
I'd never heard of it until here...and it's completely real.  Sad :(

La-a is totally real, she's now in sixth grade... As an elementary teacher who works with the entire school, I see it all. We often talk about dumb names at lunch, especially now that I am pregnant. Apparently. A friends sis, who works in a delivery room in the inner city said a mom actually named her new daughter placenta! Gross!

  • Wow! I think the worst part of that is the fact that it in no way looks like it's supposed to be pronounced. Poor kiddos.

  • "Names" like that are why I don't question countries like Iceland who reserve the right to reject names. People have named their kid Satan in the US. And the jello and la-a names are real. One of my friends who used to work in a nicu also had twins names cherry and cola. So sad.

I believe it.  DH worked for CPS for about 6 or so months, and one of the cases he worked...was a child with this name.  What in the ever lovin' fuck.  I told him that's child abuse right there.  Geez.
