We are signing our wills Friday but I just realized I have nothing in there about my jewelry. I have 3 sons and own a diamond engagement ring, diamond earrings, wedding band, and a strand of pearls.
Do you have a plan for dividing big jewelry?
No, I didn't make any special division of personal effects. Later in life I may ask them if there is anything of mine that they really want and then add it to the will if there is, but not at this stage.
Ours does not specify and divides everything 50/50. At this point, I don't necessarily care who gets what. However, if there comes a point that I do care, I will write it down and stick it with the will. My grandmother put little labels inside items she wanted for particular people, and had a running list in her jewelry drawer that she assigned items to people Even though it wasn't in the will, since it was dated and in her handwriting, it was enforceable.
