Rice and other grains

How does your LO eat rice, quinoa, barley, etc.? Do they eat with their fingers, do you spoon feed? I'd like DD to try some of these, but she likes to feed herself, and they don't really seem like a good finger food. Help!

Re: Rice and other grains

  • DS might accidentally get some rice when he eats black beans and rice, but he is pretty good at picking up on the texture and promptly spitting it out. I haven't had any luck with rice or quinoa yet :(

  • We tried rice a few times but it didn't go well. She couldn't really pick up the pieces and didn't seem to like being spoon-fed. It stinks because I have some rice recipes we really like but it's just a pain trying to get DD to eat it.

  • He uses a spoon and his hands. It's a big 'ol mess.

  • She uses her fingers. I usually make chicken, beans, veggie stirfry etc. I just put some of the rice on the chicken and let her eat it.
  • Sounds like I'll have to try it when I'm home. FI gets frustrated when too much food end up on the ground or things get too messy /:).
I'll have to try those cakes too, thanks for the recipes DC!

  • Couscous is the WORST.  But we haven't tried that since he decided he couldn't be spoon fed anymore.  DS does okay with rice because it kind of sticks together enough that he can pick up chunks of it, but yeah, it's just a big ol' mess.
