Anyone with kids who have had tubes...

So DD goes into the ENT today to talk about getting tubes. She's had at least one ear infection a month, if not more, and now they just aren't clearing up. My question is that she had been babbling and saying different consonants but since her last infection, she's totally stopped. She coos and makes noises but not at all like she was. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it just a result of the infections because she's not hearing correctly? I just don't want to have to worry that she's going backwards developmentally. I'll have my SO talk to the ENT about it at her appointment today but I guess I'm just worried about her. She just hasn't been herself lately and I really hope it's just her ears and that she goes back to chatting away once (if) she gets tubes.

  • Thanks @twolittlewheels, I know I am worrying prematurely but like you know, sometimes it's hard not to. I need to calm down and just see what the ENT says and go from there. It helps to know that it helped your DD and that babies can stop doing something for a variety of reasons, not just because something is "wrong". I just want my poor girl to feel better!

  • I don't have experience with tubes, but DS will more than likely need them. I just wanted to wish you luck and give support. I have heard of many kids who blossom after tubes. It's like the tubes change their lives. They talk more, are happier, and sleep better.

  • My nephew got tubes at 9 months and he started "talking" afterwards. DS gets his on Friday. I've got my fingers crossed that it helps :) I hope your LOs appointment went well today.
  • Thanks everyone! Well the appointment went a little differently than I expected. The ENT wants us to schedule and appointment for getting tubes but he also wants to fix her tongue tie, I didn't even think she really had that. In addition, she has pretty bad lip tie that he said we could choose to fix as well. I had no idea she had that either, I feel terrible for being clueless. This could explain why we had such a horrible time breastfeeding and also why she gags so bad.

I want to just get everything taken care of bit SO wasn't totally sure. We talked about it for a while and decided to just do it, we're going to have her tongue and lip tie released when she goes to get tubes. The scheduler is supposed to call us this week to set it all up. I'm nervous but I'm hopeful that this will make her life better.
