Head Engagement

Just got back from my 38 week checkup and apparently baby's head is only 1/5 engaged/ 4/5 palpable. I'm sort of disappointed at this because i thought she'd be more engaged by now. Esp as my mucus plug has been breaking down and i need to pee 90% of the time.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Has anyone been only slightly engaged at this point, but gone into labour by their EDD? I'm totally done with being pregnant now and the thought of going really overdue/being induced makes me sad :(

Re: Head Engagement

  • That's reassuring. Obv baby will come when she's ready, but I've been feeling like there's something around the corner for the past couple of days. Now I feel like she's weeks away again.

  • My doctor didn't mention engagement at my last appointment but I can tell baby is still super high. Makes me so frustrated as I have been walking, doing squats, trying to get baby to drop. Nada. Hang in there - hopefully baby will drop soon!

  • Babies will come when they are ready - and trust me, there will be times once the baby is out that you will long for the days when she was safely tucked away in your belly. Hang in there! The average length of gestation for a first pregnancy is about 41 weeks, and going that long is totally normal (if uncomfortable).
