NWMR-How Long Do You Eat Leftovers Before Throwing it Away?

I made a large dinner on Easter and I still have a lot left over. I brought some in for lunch today and still have enough for lunch tomorrow. I don't see the big deal, it tastes fine- but others have said they don't eat leftovers past day 2. I'm curious to know how long you guys will make leftovers last.

  • Up to a week max, depends what it is.

  • If it contains meat, fish, dairy or eggs, I toss it at day 3.

I'd give vegetables or starches a little longer than that, like 4-5 days.  Anything leftover is definitely getting tossed at day 5.

We keep leftovers for 2 weeks.

Apparently we are salmonella waiting to happen.

DH and I once had a MAJOR fight because I threw out 2 week old egg rolls while he was on a business trip (by the time he got back from his trip, they would have been 3 weeks old) :) He hates wasting food but frequently forgets about leftovers in the fridge.

I usually toss things after they have been in the fridge for more than a week. Now that I am pregnant though, I try not to eat leftovers that are more than a couple of days old and the same goes for DS. Anything older than that gets eaten by DH or gets thrown out.

  • Depends on what it is.  Up to a week.  I do try to freeze if I don't think I will use within a few days.
  • Most stuff up to a week.
  • depends what it is.  For DD's birthday party my mom made a ton of baked ziti (no meat just eggplant in it).  Anyway, there was so much leftover that it was my lunch pretty much the entire week.  Meat I really don't like to eat past day 3.

  • It depends on what it is, but I usually keep stuff for a week-ish. Fish I'll throw out after a few days, though.

  • I'm OK up to about a week. DH will eat (and get mad at me for not eating) food that is disgustingly old. Like 2-3 weeks in the fridge. We actually argue about this.

  • I'm with the others on up to a week but it really depends on what it is, whether I think I'll actually eat it (after 2-3 days if I don't eat it I might be like, eh, that is not going to happen), and how it looks/smells ;).
  • Absolutely up to a week for me. As long as it doesn't smell :-)
