do your kiddos have a favorite toy/blanket/lovey whatever?

I read somewhere that at this age, most kids have a favorite toy or lovey that they take everywhere with them. S shows absolutely no signs of having a favorite anything, so that was a little surprising to read about. Does your little ones have a favorite item? If so, what is it? I'm wondering if I'm just not introducing her to something she would like to "love".

  • While she doesn't take it everywhere, she sleeps with it and its first choice in a pile of toys, her stuffed dog from ikea is her favorite. She snuggles it to sleep.

  • @MrsM1111: did she pick it out on her own and just decide that that was her favorite?

@mayMomNY: I agree it's not developmentally important, I was just curious to see what types of toys kids seemed to like as their favorite because maybe I just wasn't introducing enough soft squishy toys for her to like or something like that.

  • Em doesn't have a favorite anything. In fact, he has absolutely no interest in stuffed animals or blankets at all.

I did notice on his 12 month ages and stages questionnaire that it asked if he hugs or cuddles stuffed animals. I wasn't sure if I should be concerned that he doesn't do that.

  • Her Wubbanub goes everywhere, but she is also just fine to play without it, so I guess not really.  She just got her first stuff animal and we've tried to give her a small lovey, but she's not really interested.

  • No, I got nothing here yet..I have even encouraged him to like one of his stuffed dolls because I thought having a lovey would help with sleep, but I am not seeing any clear favorites with any of his toys or anything he is truly attached to besides me.

  • Nothing! I guess I dont let him sleep with a blanket still.  hahaha  I thought now that hes turning 1 I could prob let him:)    He moves so much I doubt hed keep it on anyway.   He has fav toys he likes to push around the house thats about it, which Im ok with bc kind of a pain if you always have to remember it when you go places.
  • Oh no we have a favorite lovey and it goes everywhere. It gets filthy and he throws a fit if we take it away to wash it. We ended up buying 3 more of the exact same one. One stays in his crib, one is at grandmas, one in the diaper bag and then an extra in case we have ever have a repeat of the vomit episode of a few weeks ago. He doesn't need all the time but if he's cranky or tired it's the only thing he wants. He will not go to sleep without it. He was a blankie baby. He had to have a blanket on him at all times. Once he got mobile in his crib and not swaddled he needed some kind of a safe comfort object. We tired a few and this particular one was it.
  • Yep, she has a lovey she is obsessed with. A black and white Jellycat dog lovey, and she has it at all times. Don't even try to put her to bed without it, or get her out of her crib in the morning without it. She smashes him into her face, gives him kisses and requires him to be whatever room she happens to be in.

She likes most stuffed animals, but nothing similar to how she is with this thing.

C has a knitted blanket he sleeps with. He doesn't care about it unless it's nap time or bed time. We've never forgotten it so I have no idea if/how he would sleep without it. Unfortunately, it's white:)

  • how interesting! it seems like for most of you who have kiddos who are attached to something it's like a blanket or lovey (which is like a small blanket with a head on it right?). We've never let her sleep with a blanket because she moves around so much we're worried she'll smother herself, but maybe I should throw one of the loveys we have into her crib and see if she wants that.

  • We put a little taggies blanket and a rattle/blanket in his crib, but he could take it or leave it. He doesnt seem to have any favorites yet. I think it'll come in time. ?

  • No lovey's yet for us. My first LO didn't have a favorite stuffed animal or anything until she was about 3. Now at almost 6 she has 4 stuffed particular stuffed animals that all have names and have to sleep in her bed, every night.

  • She doesn't really have a favorite, she likes all of her toys/stuffed animals. She sleeps with a blanket and goodnight bear but its not a favorite or anything.

  • I think is possible to pick the item your LO is attached to. With my first, it's a crocheted blanket that I have to her every time we nursed before naps or bed. My 10 month old is attached to his A&A lovie. I started giving it to him everytime we nursed starting at 5 months. Now if we go near his room he runs to his crib to try and get it out. Neither one of my kids is allowed to take their security items out of their rooms.

  • I keep a lovey in his crib but it's usually at the opposite end of the crib - so I don't think he cares too much about it.

I never had a favorite blankie or doll when I was a baby.
  • LO has an elephant lovey she sleeps with since we transitioned from bedsharing to crib at 3 months.  She sucks on the ears and I think that soothes her because it helps her fall asleep or fall back asleep is she wakes in the middle of the night.  Sometimes she carries it out of the crib when we get her in the morning or she'll bury her face in it and smile and grab it when we offer it to her.  We also take it if we are going on long car rides where she'll take one of her naps on the road.  I would say that is her favorite but she doesn't have to have it everywhere.
  • I started giving LO a lovey (small blanket with a stuffed head attached) when she was younger at nap time when trying to get her to nap in her crib. She wouldn't use a soother so I wanted her to have some sort of comfort item and something to associate with sleep. I always watched her with it, and just in the last little while I started letting her have it at night too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that she has a favorite item only because I forced it on her haha

  • A has a kitty lovey that is she is attached too. When she was mobile and I felt comfortable I put 2 stuffed animals ( a puppy and a bear) and a kitty lovey in the corners of her crib. For a while she loved to snuggle with her puppy. For about a month or 2 now it has been her kitty lovey and she is very attached to it. It comforts her and she gets all snuggley. Now that she can walk she will pull it out of her crib if she doesn't take it with her when she wakes up. I don't let it leave the house though. Unfortunately I didn't buy it for her and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'd like to buy at least one more because it can get filthy and she searches for it when we wash it.

  • T is obsessed with his two OBall cars from Target. He plays with them over and over again everyday. I took them out from his bag when we went to my aunt's for Easter yesterday and he started smiling and waving his hands frantically. He's not grow attached to any blankets or stuffed animals yet.
  • We don't have a favourite toy yet but she has a favourite book. Everytime she sees it she gets giddy.

  • These are the two things she gets most excited about and often carries around the house. She seriously prefers orange items.
  • Yes she loves stuffed toys all of a sudden. This is her Easter bunny who she now carries everywhere.image
