SO Toothbrushing...who has brought LO to the dentist yet?

I'm feeling guilty that I haven't yet brought LO to the dentist. What are the rest of you doing? If you have already been...how was it? Are you going to a pediatric or regular dentist?

  • Our dentist said that he doesn't need to go till he is two and even then unless there is something wrong then that is just to get him "acquainted" so he isn't afraid.

  • That's what our dentist said too.

  • DD went for her first appointment at 9 months because she chipped the enamel on her two front teeth. The dentist said to bring her back at 15 months, which I still need to make an appointment for.

  • No dentist on this end for awhile. We barely have 4 teeth so he'll be 2-2.5 before we take him.

  • I'm so glad to see a lot of you are waiting until LOs are 2! One of my clients is a pedi dentist and he was giving me a ton of crap the other day for not having taken DS in yet. My pedi and my dentist both told me not to take him until he turned 2 but I thought maybe I had missed something!

  • None of the above. Our doctor said not to come until she's after 2 and since we'll be back in DC when she's 2.5 we'll go see him then.
  • We plan on taking DD when she is around 2 years old.

  • Like many PPer's I am waiting until DS is around 2-2.5. Our pedi recommended going at 1 but our dentist said 2-3. She said that she hasn't brought her kids yet (ages 1.5 and 2.5). I also have a friend who is a pediatric dentist who says 2-3 years old is a good time to start.

  • We have already been twice! DD was born with a tooth so we went when she was like 2 months to see what to do about it and then again at 13 months because our ped recommended it (she had two of her one year molars at nine months).

  • We have been to the dentist because my LO chipped his tooth and another regular appt tomorrow! Not looking forward to it, he hates the dentist.

  • We went in February. Just to make sure all her teeth looked healthy and were coming in correctly. My sister had lots of issues with her teeth so I wanted to have her checked early on. She screamed like a maniac. :((

  • Oh, wow!  I really thought I was in the minority on this one, but it sounds like we are all on the same path (dentist at 2.)  DD has quite a few teeth - 8 or 10 (too hard to get in there to count them).  I'll probably bring her in the next 6 months.

Really!? I have never heard of this, and I am sure you mentioned this before but I missed it. @spainy17

I know! Its really rare, especially since hers was fixed so we kept it! So she has been teething since birth. Fun. ;-)

  • JJ has an appointment in June, so we are going to take Si in then too.  It's really mostly to get him comfortable with it.  However, we do have some jaw and bite issues in the family, so it'll also be a chance to make sure everything is looking okay.

  • John is scheduled to go into the dentist on May 1st. He has 10 teeth popped and working on two more. The dental receptionist said that they'll brush his teeth and look around as well as he lets them and generally try to make it a fun experience.
