2nd Trimester

When do you start to feel the baby?

What week did you notice those movements and what do they feel like?

TIA

Re: When do you start to feel the baby?

  • Typically, it is between 16 and 20 weeks, but some can be earlier and some can be later. It feels like gas bubbles or like someone poking you from the inside.

  • I started definitely feeling baby around 18 weeks.  Now it is pretty much everyday.  At first it kinda feels like gas bubbles.  But, once you realize that it is happening in the same place over and over, you realize what you are feeling.  By week 19 I could definitely tell it was kicks and rolls!

  • Just in the past few days I've been sure it's the baby. Before that I was like, "Is that the baby moving, or the tacos I had for dinner?"

I told my DH it feels like someone is flicking my stomach from this inside. Then I started flicking his stomach, and after the 3rd or 4th time he was like "That's kind of annoying" I said, "It's different when it's a baby!"

  • I started to *really* feel it the past couple of days (20 weeks).  Before that, i wasn't sure if i was feeling it or not. It feels like muscle spasms to me - or like when i get an eye twitch.  It just happens out of the blue and doesn't hurt at all.  If i'm looking at my stomach, i can even see it sometimes.... usually pretty low, but last night it was up around my belly button.
  • Fun, I can't wait!
  • i felt DS at 16 weeks. i'm feeling this baby just this week at 14 weeks. you are usually feeling the baby when its below the bellybutton. and it feels like something pushing out (strength varies) from within.
  • This week has been the first week (20 weeks) ?I have felt anything. I never felt those flutters everyone talks about (of course maybe I did and just mistook it for gas, hungry stomach ache, etc.) The kicks I feel are just like little pulses in my stomach. They are still very few and far between but really cool when it happens. I feel it usually after lunch and I have to be sitting very still.?

I should point out that it's just right below the belly button, usually off to one side a bit. ?

  • I am 19 weeks and now I'm sure its the little creature in there I am feeling! It started as flutters, but lately it's like someone is lightly flicking you from the inside. They are always low. It feels so strange, but so exciting at the same time!
  • @mandizzle04, this post is from August 2009.
  • I had the "minnows" feeling - like if you go swimming in a pond or lake and fish come up and nibble on your legs - that's what it felt like. That started around 17 weeks. That kept getting more frequent until about a week ago I started feeling little punches/kicks here and there. 2 days ago I had the biggest movement at a baseball game - I felt him totally flip over. Felt like a flopping fish. It was heavy and hard to mistake for something else.

  • The first time I felt something was at 19w2d. just below my belly button and it felt like it punched me. I wasn't 100% sure it was the baby, but it felt too close to the surface to be gas bubbles or other digestive things going on.  Then I didn't feel anything for a few days but since this past weekend I've felt something about once a day, usually below my belly button on my right side. It always feels like a little shove from the inside. Like if you take your thumb from your left hand and and press it quickly on the palm of your right hand. Sometimes I only feel it once, but other times I feel it a few times. Usually when I'm laying down and relaxed at night or before I get up in the morning. I never got the butterflies or flutters or minnows feeling.

  • I was sure I felt something at 15 weeks.. but it was most likely gas. I am now at 18 weeks and I do feel something moving once in a while. I figure it would not be regular anyways so I shouldn't fret... Even the Dr was like its still early.... I am looking forward to when I can feel the baby a lot more. However, some people complain that is when it is a lot more uncomfortable and sometimes hurt...So, for now I just take each day as it comes and enjoy what I can!
  • It was very soon, but at 11 weeks, I could feel what most would call fluttering. I felt it more like... a rubber pinwheel briefly spinning. I only felt this periodically for about two weeks, and then I stopped feeling those distinct motions.
I got to 19 weeks, and that sensation came back. Week 20 came and it turned more into clear kicks/ hits about two to three times a day. Super cool to feel the progression! :D
  • First baby I felt around 20 week mark.  This one I started feeling at about 17w.

  • First babe I felt around 19 weeks, and this time 17 weeks on the nose =)
