weight loss and ttc question

I start back up at the fertility clinic at the end of the week!!! We switched to a new clinic again, but this one is local and they seem really great. I am really excited and hopeful about it this time. I really think it will work and I will get pregnant by the end of the summer if not before. Fingers crossed!

Anyways, I have been losing weight since Christmas. And have only been eating 1200 calories plus whatever I burn if I exercise. I don't know if I should keep on losing weight while ttc, or if I should maintain my weight which according to MFP would have me eating around 1800 calories a day. I think I would like to lose another 5lbs if possible. But I am also really happy where I am now and am fine to maintain it if that is the right answer. What do you think?  Do you think eating the lower amount could risk the chance of getting a bfp? Or am I totally over thinking this?

Re: weight loss and ttc question

  • I think you are overthinking it. Maybe a compromise of 1400-1500 cal a day? You could still lose weight but at a slower rate. FWIW- I got my surprise BFP while doing an extreme low carb diet.

  • As long as you're not going under a healthy weight, I think you'll be fine. I was also dieting hard core when I got my bfp after trying for 3 years.

  • Okay thanks. I am going to try and keep at it then. Fertility meds can cause weight gain and i would rather not. Haha.

  • I have usually tried to lose weight/be healthy no matter if TTC or not.
  • I think you're fine to keep going, though I'd ask at the clinic to confirm. 1200 isn't dangerously low and as long as you're still getting your period, I'd assume you're good :)
