Workout questions

Ok so I know you have to push yourself to get results but these 30 day challenges and what not are just way too overwhelming to me because I KNOW I can't begin to do that stuff.  Has anyone found a good workout plan or method for real beginners for cardio and toning?  I'm looking for an all over toning method because let's face it, it all needs work lol I figure then I can move up to harder stuff but I just don't know where to start for super like, I just woke up from a coma and have no muscle tone, level lol

Re: Workout questions

  • I started my weight loss program with "Walk Away the Pounds" videos.  There are so many DVD's out there but I started at 1 mile and worked my way up to 3 miles.  From there I started training for a 10K in June.  I swear by these videos! They motivate you and increase your cardio throughout the miles.  They also incorporate weights or stretchy band that helps with toning.

  • Thanks @mcbush :)  And thanks everyone.  I can't run because it's dark by the time DH gets home and the boys are in bed and I won't run in the dark so this all has to be stuff I can do at home.   Right now I'm walking and then doing a hi/lo cardio thing that's on demand and I just found a core strength one that I MIGHT be able to do.

But when I say I'm in rough shape, I'm not lying.  I walked a fast two miles last Monday with some minor hills and I'm embarrassed to say it took days for my shins and hip muscles to not scream :(

  • I'm doing the 30-day challenge. I wanted to quit after day 3 or 4, but talked to my brother. He is a college track runner and hr said that you can't stop when it hurts. To get your body used to working out, you have to push through according to him.

I have Sworkit as well and had used it pre-pregnancy. I liked it and am going back to it after the challenge. I'm using the challenge as a jumping point to get the flab gone.

It's perfectly fine- everyone starts somewhere, right? You would be amazed at what you can accomplish if you're not afraid to push yourself. No shame in hurting after fast-walking two miles- good for you for pushing yourself! I definitely takes some time to awaken muscles you haven't used in a while. Just keep at it and when it gets easy or mindless, step it up a bit (or a lot  ;)

  • @nolongerthebest 5lbs is fantastic! You'll have to let me know how much you've lost at the end of the 30 days!

  • @KittenGator well I gained an extra pound after eating so bad last week so I'm not sure it will be much more than 5 pounds! But I have noticed less tummy flab and that is awesome!

  • I actually second the Walk Away the Pounds. My aunt did it and saw results and it got her in good enough shape to add in harder workouts down the line.
  • I second (third? fourth?) the 30 Day Shred. I had never actually worked out before when I bought that dvd a few years ago and I was able to do it. I'm not gunna lie, that shit hurt like a mofo, but I was pretty f-ing proud of myself in the end that I did it. I have to start it again but I'm a little embarrassed that the people in the apartment below will hear me jumping around.
  • I am also a huge Jillian Michaels fan. The 30 day shred or Ripped in 30 are a good place to start because the workouts are intense but short! Plus they start at beginner and you work your way up. Just making the choice to get fit is amazing! In the beginning of my 88 pound weight loss journey I really really struggled with my workouts. But I just kept thinking "no matter what you accomplish today, it's Better for you than sitting on the couch would've been" And now, I kill my workouts! I feel better than I've felt in years. Good luck girl!
  • @NicoleReed0324 that is an awesome point and probably one I've been ignoring - ANYTHING is better than nothing.  Thanks for that :)
