If you are allergic to pecans can you eat something that is smoked from a pecan tree?

He says yes. I say no.

    It probably varies by person.  DD is allergic to eggs.  She can eat them in baked goods, but not alone.

    I've eaten things smoked with pecan wood...but I'm allergic to tree nuts. It's an adult allergy, so it's getting worse though, so why risk it.

    I used to work at a restaurant that used pecan wood and we had to advise people that we did incase of allergies.

    I realize that the wood is separate from the allergen in the protein which is the actual nut. I guess that's what DH was trying to say ha.

    Disclaimer - we don't have allergies. Just arguing over it because he got chicken sausage that said it was peacan smoked. My neighbor was like woah I'm allergic & DH was like you could still eat it. It isn't the same. Then while they all goggled it I posted here. Thanks ladies!! :)

    I'm not reading the answers yet, but I would say your husband is right. The protein is in the nut, not the wood.
