Pregnant after 35

Hi! 41 and pregnant with first!

Seems strange to be here, as DH and I were told we would not have more than a 10-15% chance of conceiving due to infertility issues.  We started treatment but had to quit because we couldn't afford to continue on.  In the last week we had started classes to adopt through the foster care system.

Then came my missed period.  I have never been late in all my life.  But I thought it was peri-menopause!  Nope, two very dark lines appeared on the pregnancy test!  So, we managed to conceive even though we were told it was next to impossible.  I am currently 5 weeks along and will go back to the doctor in a month for my exams, ultrasound and any other lab workups I may need.

I have to say that I'm quite worried and excited all at the same time.  Hoping to find some support here, and in turn show support for others who are facing their first pregnancy after 35!  I'm buckled in and ready for the ride!

Re: Hi! 41 and pregnant with first!

  • Congrats & good luck.  I have 2 daughters, 25 & 18.  I recently married a man that is a few years younger than myself & he didn't have any kids of his own.  He initailly was ambivalent about the whole "having kids" until recently.  We will start trying to conceive in about a month.  So I am also quite worried & excited too.

  • Congrats and welcome!

We were given a less than 2 percent chance of conceiving on our own, so I call this little guy my "2% baby." He squeaked in under the wire just before we were going to start IUI and other fertility treatments.

It's pretty amazing stuff. Wishing you a happy and healthy nine months. :)

  • I am 39. I had a tubal reversal 4 years ago. After we where told that my husband had a motility problem and is was a 6% chance of natural conception. We tried IUI for 2 years and even used a donor, none of which worked. We had to stop because of finances and well just stopped trying. 3 months later we got pregnant. Incredibly nervous but so excited!
    Good Luck Ladies And Congrats
  • Congrats!  :)

I am hoping this little guy hangs tough and clings on. Good luck and stay positive.

  • Yes! Other first time moms over 35.  I just turned 39 on Sunday and am at 10 weeks with my first.
  • 41 and pregnant too! Had a miscarriage very early on in November and am now almost 10 wks. Nervous, but hopeful and starting to allow myself to be excited.

Congratulations :) I was 40 in December and just found out I am expecting my second.  Although I am not a first time mom it feels like it (my daughter is 22 yo!!!) so we are pretty excited as we came to the conclusion that it was not meant to be.  Wishing you and everyone on here the very best throughout this amazing journey!

  • @pem1228‌ don't give up! We tried for years too and it finally worked at 41 yo. I wish it had happened earlier but this is the way our cards turned out. So we are welcoming healthy twins soon and so excited. :)

Hey there! I'm 41, too, and pregnant with our second. My first was born just 3 months before I turned 35, so I get all this advanced maternal age business. I have PCOS and DH has some motility issues, and after years of no luck, we were working on adoption when the first one showed up! That was 6 years ago and again, no luck so we had recently started talking adoption again and BAM positive test. Welcome to the club! I am super nervous this time, too, but I'm trying to focus on the happy and just take it day by day. I think that is all you can do. If you are of a prayerful nature, that can help, too. God bless you and congratulations!
  • Welcome and congratulations! I was 38 when I had my DD and now am having #2 and I'll have just turned 40 in November when this babe is born (EDD Dec 30).

My former PCP had her first at 42 and my SIL had her first at 40 (IVF) and her second (post failed IVF, she conceived naturally) at 42.

I love that I'm way less uptight than I would have been 10 or 15 years ago, so I'm way more chill about the hiccups that come with being pregnant. I do NOT, however, like that I can no longer function perfectly on only 4 hours' interrupted sleep, and that when I'm up at 3am to clean up vomit, it's not from a night of partying but because the Little ate too much or is teething. LOL

You rock this pregnancy, Lady! You go and rock it!

  • Congratulations and welcome! I just turned 42 last month and today I'm 29 weeks pregnant with my first! I, too, had my doubts about becoming pregnant, reading the 'over 40 and trying to conceive' books and trying to come to terms with the small percentages we were facing. Never missing a period before, I missed my first in July. Went to the doctor and took a test and it came back negative. Doc gave me progesterone, and for two months, my periods were normal. In October, I missed again, and I figured it was the same thing. After missing again in November, I took a home pregnancy test,(ok, so I took 6 tests) and it was positive! I saw the doctor in December and had my first ultrasound showing my little pea pod! DH and I were shocked and thrilled at the same time, and we can't wait to meet our little girl in July. I was lucky to never have morning sickness, however, that is why I wasn't convinced I was pregnant for the first two months of my pregnancy. I am, unfortunately, experiencing the terrible pain in my feet that I'd heard so much about. Go girl, stay positive, and good luck!!
  • Congrats I'm 41 as well!   Enjoy but this my second!
