Troubleshoot my pumping issue

My supply seems to have dipped in the past 24 hours and I have no idea why. Literally nothing is different. I've drank a ton of water, no diet change, and no AF. I started the night shift last night (6p-6a) and I just don't seem to be responding well to the pump. For the last 2 weeks while I was on day shift (6a-6p) I had no issues. I could get 4-6 oz in 15 minutes every 4 hours. Now my letdown is taking foreeeever and I'm barely getting 4. All the pump parts seem to be fine. What gives? Oh and I'm pretty sure it's just a pump thing as DD has been nursing fine.

What kind of pump are you using? I had drastic production reduction when I was using a personal grade pump, but was able to maintain supply with a hospital grade one.

  • Could it be that your body is just used to not having to make milk in middle of night cause you are usually sleeping? Do you wake up during the day and pump when you would if working day shift?
  • Do you have an LC you can contact? I'm having the same problem and I think it's the pump. I learned that Medela has a tool that tests the strength of the suction to see if it's pump related so I'm going to go get it tested this afternoon.

It's a Medela PISA. I thought maybe it could be because my body is used making less at night but I've pumped less during the day today too. When I work the midnight shift I pump 3x a shift even though DD doesn't eat that often at night because I sleep during the day. I do still pump 2x during the day while she's at daycare though. Those 2x have been low output too.

I just replaced the membranes and valves so hopefully that makes a difference.
