Heartbeats. Update

When did you first hear your babies heartbeats with the doppler? Those have had a singleton was it earlier, the same, or later? I have an appointment tomorrow at 11 weeks and I'm curious to see how likely we will be able to hear the heartbeats. With dd I had an appt around 11 1/2 weeks and we were barely able to hear her heartbeat. Were you able to hear two separate heartbeats?

We were able to hear one heartbeat for sure at 168 and thought she got the other around 167, but that was hard to get.  She didn't seemed concerned.  We will go back for an u/s next week.

Re: Heartbeats. Update

  • My OB wouldn't even try that early with twins. She also doesn't have in house u/s, so I had to wait until my NT scan.

W my singleton, we heard at 10w on the Doppler.

  • We had an appt with our midwife at 10w6d and she tried with the Doppler and couldn't find them. Thankfully we'd just done an RE ultrasound the day before so we knew both heartbeats were great.

Good luck but don't worry if they can't find them!
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • The only time she tried it, it was too hard to find both heartbeats.  So they just rolled in a little u/s machine and we saw the heartbeats at every appt.

  • I think it's the same as with a singleton. Probably didn't hear my babies until around 13-14 weeks I'd say.

  • My doctor as well as never attempted with a doppler, we just get a quick ultrasound each appt. I found them at home with my doppler around 10.5 weeks though.

  • With my singleton DS it was 9 weeks on the dot. With my twins it was 8w2d. I just knew better how to look and what I was listening for. Even though both babies have an AP, I am pretty sure I can tell them apart on the doppler now.

  • My doctor picked up one heartbeat easily at my 12 week appointment. He didn't try any earlier.

  • Thanks for the replies. They currently don't have an u/s tech at the office. She is on maternity leave, so they sent me to the hospital for a dating u/s. I'm hoping she will do an u/s if she can't find the heartbeats, but with no u/s tech I'm nervous they won't.

  • Well I haven't gotten to HEAR the girls' heartbeats since I've switched to my MFM.  Whichever board governs their medical testing instructs them to only turn the audio on if necessary.  They said it transmits more power than necessary to the babies.  So they're able to get the heartbeat without turning the audio on.

Also, no one ever tried with doppler.  The OB before my MFM used the regular ultrasound machine, so we heard them both at 8 and 12 weeks.

The u/s Tech only did my a/s and growth scans. All of my heart rate checks were done by the OB.

Yeah this sounds weird to me. I have only had a tech some of the time. A NP did my first ultrasound, my MFM has done several including some growth scans, and my OB wheels their portable ultrasound machine in every time to get the heart beats. Hopefully someone will give you an ultrasound. They have never once used a Doppler with me during this pregnancy. Good luck!

Have you not had an u/s yet to confirm a multiples pregnancy?
Eta- I know you had a Doppler and heard what seems to be two heartbeats. But this all seems kinda of an odd way about it. A np In my ob's office also did u/s at our first appt at 7 weeks. That's when we saw my twins.

I had an u/s at 6 weeks. At the time we saw the heartbeats, but she couldn't measure them. Since I never heard them and they couldn't get a good measure I have always been worried I would lose one, but we were able to hear one heartbeat for sure and one she thought she got.

  • We heard both heartbeats at 14 weeks and every appointment there after.

Seeing heartbeats is really good! I was totally confused about what was going on with you. Thanks for the clairity (I'm very tired, so I confuse easily). The only time I saw a tech was at my MFM. At the ob, she always performed a quick u/s. I didn't get a Doppler until 2nd tri.
  • My OB never tried with a doppler either.  I always had a quick u/s of each baby to check heartbeats.  It's too hard to tell which heartbeat is which and if you are getting the same one or a different one.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
