Baby Names

"Two is a coincidence, three is a trend"

My kids both have names that start with the "K" sound (Kate and Connor). Our last name starts with a Q, so sounds like "Quill", which phonetically is the "K" sound too.

So we aren't Duggar style at all because none of the names are matching letters, however, I know that it is a lot of the same sound.

Of course, most of my favorite girl names in the event that baby 3 is a girl start with C (Caroline, Clara). Both sound good with our last name, but is Kate, Connor, & Caroline becoming side-eye worthy? Duggar-ish?

My favorite name of the moment is Caroline Wren. (Wren is a family name that I love, so non negotiable). However, I am willing to move on if I am being crazy.

Be honest, I can take it :).

I wouldn't do it just because I think I'd stumble over the names when calling them or talking to them. However, both Caroline and Clara are good names, Clara being my favorite name ever :-).

  • It is a little much, but I'm not aire that it's a good enough reason to not use a name that you absolutely love.

I would really side-eye it. I really really dislike alliteration, as well as siblings starting with the same letter. A lot.
  • I really don't like themey sibsets and this would qualify IMO.  What about Wren Caroline?
  • I'm kinda strange and think 2 is enough for a trend. My sister has 2 children with "C" names and the third has an "E" and it bugs me a bit.

I think Caroline sounds perfect with Kate and Connor.

Believe me, if I can get my husband on board with Wren as a first name I will :). I would love to use Wren Caroline.

Ha! Well, we have already sinned then with you :).

I grew up with alliteration in my name (first and last started with a "J") and that didn't bother me at all. I actually like most alliterated names. However, I do respect your dislike for siblings starting with the same letter. When I was pregnant with Connor, people asked if it was going to be spelt "Konnor" because of my DD's name - Katherine. I was like :-S

  • Thanks, everyone!

@Grace0609, I love that you are having your fourth boy! My husband is one of four boys, all born about 2 years apart like yours, and they are seriously the best of friends. Even now where they are all in their 30s, and live all over the country, they still "conference call" all the time and take "boys only" ski trips once per year. I am very envious of that relationship that they all have  :).

  • I wouldn't side eye it. Your kids will only spend a short time of their lives as a threesome with folks saying their names together. I say go for it.
I agree with this.  I like that they don't all start w/the same letter too.
    +1

  • It is too much alliteration for me. I'd be constantly tripping over Kate and Connor, so adding in Caroline or similar would be a total headache for me.

Not to hijack the thread but this is awesome. :) I have a DS & I'm now pregnant with DD. I'm excited to have both but I can't for the life of me understand people who told me, "Oh I hope it's a girl! You NEED a girl!" Um, no I don't. We need whatever sex the Lord gives us & we'll be SO elated. How can anyone meet my precious son & not want another one anyway? :) And when we have a third child, we'll be ready for either sex then also. We will never be disappointed in any of our children.
    :x

Thank you so much. That actually just made me cry. Four boys was certainly not what I thought our family would end up looking like! It is taking a little getting used to but stories like this are so encouraging and make me excited for the future! I just got back from buying a big boy bed for number two and new bed sets for all of them that coordinate for room sharing and that did make me excited! Madras plaid all around :)!
This is a WONDERFUL way to be excited for your 4th little guy. :) Congrats & go TEAM BLUE! :D

Yea, I absolutely couldn't care less about the sex of this third baby. Both are awesome :).

  • It's NBD.

I think if you are picking the names because you genuinely like them, all is well.

If you were picking the names to fit into a "theme", I would give you a slight side eye.

A close friend of mine has three kids, all of which start with either Ka or Ca and all three have the sound Kay for a first syllable. This I side eye because, wtf, could you not be more creative? As for OPs choices, no side eye from me. And honestly, with all the weird name trends going on, it makes her choices seem that much more normal.

Edit: because I and eye are not the same thing

  • I think those are great names, but I would really try to avoid it. I do find it a bit too matchy and I think it's harder for others to remember who is who when your kids have similar names.
