Baby monitors....

Dear STMs, what baby monitor are you using? We just moved into a much larger house that is 2 story. I had a baby monitor befor with a video screen with my DS but it was too bulky and noisy. Frankly, I was watching the monitor more than I was sleeping.

I need something sleek and portable that I can walk downstairs with easily that is good quality.

Suggestions please and thank you!

Re: Baby monitors....

  • I always just got a run of the mill monitor with my kids, sound and nothing else and never had an issue.
This time I got the Angel Care (as a gift, I'm not sure I'd spend that amount on a monitor myself); it seems pretty cool But I have no experience with it yet.

  • We used a Sony baby call monitor. It was simple and worked really well for us. It's still working fine and will use it for this LO

  • I actually use the Angel Care (just the audio). It is easy to carry around, has a clip on it, and has pretty good range.

  • Not a STM, but we got the Motorola portable video monitor and so far I really like it. I have already started using it because of the two way speaker/walkie function. It's come in handy when I'm doing laundry and need DH to come Down 2 floors to help me bring stuff up.
I also like that I can sync the monitor with an additional camera if I need to be able to check on two different rooms (that way I can buy a secondary cam for the family room when Mason is in the PNP while I'm doing laundry in the basement or around the corner in the kitchen).

  • I have the Motorola with the larger screen that pans, tilts and zooms. I love it! My son is now 2 but I am keeping his camera in his room and added a second for the baby's room. It is pricey, but worth it. My sister has the BRU video monitor and it has no bells and whistles but is much more affordable.

This AngelCare with 2 sensor pads.  I specify because folks I know with the single sensor pad would get very irritated with the number of false alarms they'd have.  I've never had a false alarm with the 2 pads.

We also have this Graco which we use for traveling.  I like that none of it needs to be plugged in to work.  The range is solid, and the units are easy to carry around.

  • This time around we are using the Withings Smart Baby Monitor. It syncs the video with your iPad/iPhone. We are setting it up tonight to see just how well it works.....

I have a Foscam. I have 2 cameras set up so far (DS's room, basement playroom) and will be adding a 3rd to the nursery. I love it! I can view the cameras from my iphone or computer.

I use my iPhone and iPad as the monitor through an app. My husband can also access it while he's traveling. We're getting another one for this baby.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • @pistolpackinmomma‌ - did you guys register/pay for A DNS for each camera? I had done the freebie thing with noip.com, but you have to re-register every month to keep it active so I quit doing it. Just curious if there was something easier out there!

The AngelCare is a movement sensor monitor. There's a sensor pad (or two) under the baby's mattress. If the pad senses no movement (ie breathing) for 30 seconds, an alarm sounds. Folks I know with only 1 sensor pad have had the alarm go off if their baby moves up into the corner of the crib. I've not had that issue.

  • Our house is a good size, and I'd recommend something with 2 parent units. We have the angelcare and keep one unit in the master and the other downstairs. The only time I take them anywhere is if I'm going into the yard. We just bought a second angelcare for the new baby since we're using the old one still for sound only. We had very few false alarms with the one sensor pad.
  • Angle care with sensor pad. Check it out. If you want to work it through your smart phone (and wifi), check out the one on buybuybaby.com. This is the only place you can get the 1200
  • I registered for a simple 2 parent units monitor - Graco Secure Coverage Digital Audio Baby Monitor. It's supposed to be great for bigger homes bc it has a 2000 feet range. There is no video or sensor pad.
