Refusing a bottle

My LO is almost 11 months and goes to daycare 2x per week.  He BFs great at home 4-6 times per day (and about a million times overnight, but that's another issue)  He used to be great about taking a bottle from DH - started with Medela then transitioned to Tommee Tippee when he refused Medela.  Then, he started refusing from DH, and now he will maybe take 1 bottle at daycare and only from 1 of his teachers.  I've tried BM in a sippy - he'll sip it, but he won't drink it.  I've tried the Nuk sippy, Tommee Tippee sippy, Avent trainer cup, straw cup, regular cup, and a Nuk bottle.  I've also tried almond milk in a sippy and a bottle (he can't do cows milk), and he'll sip that, too, but again, no actual drinking.  Should I try changing the nipple in the Tommee Tippee bottle to a faster flow?  Should I try more bottles?  Should I just send more solids with him (he eats all of those) to make sure he gets enough?  I'm just paranoid that he's not getting enough nutrition, and it makes me feel like I can't leave him.  TIA for any advice!

Re: Refusing a bottle

  • at this point, i wouldn't invest in more bottle parts. i'd just switch him to a straw cup if he seems frustrated with the slower flow. and send more solids. you might want to send a straw cup of water, as well. since your LO is only at daycare 2x a week, and approaching 1 year, i really wouldn't worry too much about it. he has plenty of time home with you to nurse. maybe he's just having a separation anxiety phase where he prefers to get his milk directly from you. also, with toddlers, they tend to balance out their nutrition over the course of a week, rather than a day. so even if he eats/drinks a little less at daycare, i'm sure it all balances out. :)
