December 2012 Moms

Ideas please!

We are flying May 25 and I would like to get a couple new items for Morgan to keep her occupied on the plane.  I have a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card and saw a few things there but not sure if they would work or be too big.

For those who have flown, what have you used or done to keep your LO's busy and not freaking out on the plane.  I don't want to irritate everyone around us, especially on a flight to Las Vegas :)

Re: Ideas please!

  • Milla likes those books with finger puppets attached. Do they have magna doodles? She also stays pretty entertained with anything that you put stuff in, things that open and close, zippers, animals...

  • If you have an IPad, you could download a few apps for her. I have an app that has a ton of animal pictures/sounds. She loves to do the animal sounds when we click through the pictures. I had a peekaboo app on there at one point. We also have a few disney and doctor Seuss books on there that you can read, or put on auto play. We don't do much screen time at home, but it is a great distraction when you are on a plane.
  • Thanks everyone, I have a Kindle so I may get some new apps on there for her.  That usually keeps her occupied when we are out.

  • I'm pirating some of these ideas for our trip to LA in August and Kauai in November. The animal-sounds app sounds fabulous!

  • The animal app is called animals and tools for babies. There is other stuff on it too, but we mostly do the animals.
  • We have the sound touch app, it has animals and tons if other sounds and pictures.

  • Any chance that she'll nap for part of the flight?  Almost any time that DD is moving (like in the car), if we give her a bottle/sippy of warm milk, she'll fall asleep for at least an hour.

Otherwise, Isa loved her Speak 'n Say in the car this weekend -- really anything that she can press buttons/pull something to make noise is a hit.

  • Our flight is at 8:30 am so we'll have to be up and out of the house by 5ish so she may sleep but will probably sleep in the car on the way to the airport.  I'm hoping (!!!) she'll nap for most of the flight but who knows.

  • Good luck, just took a trip with dd to cancun and she was nightmarish for 2 out of the 4 planes we had to take. She was a little distracted by episodes of Mickey Mouse and some m&ms and had some apps on my iPad but that's about it! I brought toys, crayons ( she ate them lol) and lots of snacks! The last flight was very late(delayed) and she slept the entire flight back, thank god! She was so bad on the first flight I don't think I would have handled a nightmare on the connecting flight!

  • DD loves the book Peek-a-Who.  I could read it 100 times to her and she can't get enough.  I second toys that she can put stuff in and take out.  I bought a little purse on sale at Target and put some random junk in it that DD likes: a brush, hair ties/barettes, a little water game, a make up brush, mirror, sunglasses, etc...She loves to zip/unzip it, unpack each item, we play with it, and then pack it back up, repeat.  She especially like the makeup brush because it tickles her face.

  • I bought a bunch of new little toys and books but the only thing that really kept her still was Sesame Street on the iPad.
