I need to get an eye exam, but I just heard from someone this weekend you shouldn't get eye exams while preggers bc your eyes are changing. Can anyone confirm this?
I've had two already, however I haven't been dialated. My eye doc doesn't want to dialate me until the second tri because it can cross over to the baby.
He did say that you shouldn't get new glasses or contacts while pregnant because your Rx can change and then change back.
I know I could not get one during my third trimester last pregnancy, but I don't know if they will earlier on. They said your eyes fluctuate and could change your prescription temporarily. They ordered an additional 6 months of contacts for me to get me through and I had my exam after I delivered.
I had an eye appointment about two weeks ago. I talked to my doctor about my pregnancy during it. She said that unless I was seeing spots she wouldn't dilate me. (Seeing spots would be a symptom of detachment that could cause blindness so the risk of steroids in the dilation drops would be a risk she'd take in that instance.)
I also asked about my eyes changing during pregnancy as my mom couldn't handle wearing contacts after her first pregnancy. The doctor said it depends on the hormones and the person...sometimes the eyes change sometimes they don't. I ordered six months of contacts to wear and am hoping my eyes don't change a lot. I'm virtually blind without my contacts and hate wearing glasses because the peripheral vision is so blurry.
With my last pregnancy my eye dr said unless I was having problems to hold off until after delivery since your eyes can change. I ordered contacts to get through and then had my eye exam about two months after delivery.
so glad i saw this post. i've been meaning to go to the eye dr for months but never got around to it. i might as well wait til I deliver because it doesnt make sense to get new glasses if it might change again.

I had my eyes checked before my BFP. I never needed glass before DD. When I got my eyes checked, the doctor said that I have an astigmatism. Basically, my cornea is bent. He sais that it is most likely due to my pregnancy. As for my eyesight, I can still see 20/15. In his words, I am an eagle.
Walking proof of this!!! I had Lasik back in 2007 (best decision ever!) Anyways, didn't have anything weird with my vision until I stopped breastfeeding. Literally within 2 weeks of drying up my vision was doing crazy things. Needless to say I'm back to wearing glasses/contacts. That is until I have my Lasik "touch up" which won't be for several more years.
See, this is why I love you ladies SO much! I had no idea that eyes change during pregnancy & I had an eye exam scheduled for next week.
I just called & she said "Nope, plan on coming in AFTER baby, but you can certainly come in and pick up a 6 month supply of contacts to hold you over!!"
I never heard this before either. I should be getting my postcard in the mail any day now for my annual exam. I will need to get some contacts to last me until November, but I am sure the same script should do me fine.

My grandfather is an optometrist. Your vision does change temporarily during pregnancy so unless you totally can't see anything, then don't waste your money on getting a new prescription in your lenses/contacts until after.
Since becoming pregnant, I've felt extra blind and when googling found what others have said that your eyes can change. Because of that I'll wait till baby arrives to see if I need to change my prescription.
This is true. You can get them, but if you can hold off on new glasses/ contacts it's not a bad idea. My eyes changed briefly after birth but are back to normal. I wanted new glasses while pregnant and the eye place suggested I wait it out. I got new glasses just before getting pregnant.

Mine got a lot worse when pregnant with DD and then went back to my normal a few weeks after.
