New to The Bump!

Thought this was a good time to introduce myself and say hello!! My name is Lauren, my wife is Jaime. I am 27 and she is 33. We have been TTC since January of 2014. We live in Chicago and Jaime is the carrier. We have had 3 IUIs all medicated + trigger, all BFN. Today we were supposed to go in for beta on IUI #3 but Jaime got AF on Saturday so she went in for an ultra sound instead. We found out she has 6 cysts and has to sit out another cycle and take BCP to reduce them. We are extremely frustrated and the worst part is not having people to talk to about it. No one we know is going through nor have they gone through this process so sometimes we both feel alone. We have made the decision to do IVF next round due to her not ovulating properly and always having cysts after each round. We know nothing about IVF other than the basics so if you have any advice we are all for that!! Although it has been a bummer of a day, we are both really happy we found this place to read stories and share experiences. I'm sure Jaime will get her own profile and post as well. Hope you are all having a great Monday!!

  • Welcome! This process can be so frustrating and rough, but it sounds like you have a good plan. I didn't end up doing IVF but several women on here have with good results. I'm sorry Jaime has had a tough time with ovulation and cysts. I hope she has a smooth ride with your next steps and good luck to you both!

  • Welcome and good luck!  I also conceived via IVF, after 9 failed IUIs.  There are a lot of us who can offer advice/info on the process, but if you choose to go that route, your RE or someone else at the clinic will sit down with you to go over the process or require you to attend a class.  The Infertility board is also a good source of info, even if you just lurk there.
    Married my wife 8/2007 ~ TTC #1 since 7/2011
    9 IUIs = 9 BFNs
IVF October 2012: 22 eggs retrieved, 17 fertilized, 5 frozen

    FET #1: 1 blast = BFP; Missed m/c discovered at 9w5d; D&E
Karyotyping: normal ~ RPL Testing: normal ~ Hysteroscopy: normal
    FET #2: 1 blast transferred 10/25; BFP 10/31!

  • Hi and welcome!!
I'm sorry that you and your wife have been having so much trouble.
I thought that the trigger shot made people ovulate, so I didn't know that it was possible not to ovulate when you have a mature egg and use the trigger. Then again, there is a lot I'm surprised to learn through this process.
Do you know if you were using the 10,000 HCG trigger shot?
I'm just wondering if the RE is confident that the problems with ovulation won't carry over to IVF. (I mean, I know that in IVF they go into each follicle to retrieve egg, but they do use the HCG trigger).
Anyway, welcome. I'm glad you found us. My partner and I did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus) after 6 failed IUI cycles and a number of infertility diagnoses. And we are now 12weeks 6 days with twins!
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • Hi and welcome! I did IVF with donor eggs right out of the gate after having my fallopian tubes removed and being, well, old. The great thing about IVF is knowing the sperm and egg have actually met, and are growing! Plus, barring other IF issues, you'll likely get quite a clutch of eggs/embryos for future kids. I did 4 embryo transfers and they aren't much more complex than an IUI, and you freeze time in terms of egg age (carrying as you age is NBD, egg quality is however). Anyhow welcome and good luck, and be sure to join the TTC checkin on Mondays!

  • Hello!
Welcome to our board. It is a great collection of folks with an amazing range of knowledge.
Sounds like you all have had a frustrating go... It took us well over a year to get pregnant with our current pregnancy, and we are 6 weeks and 4 days along (so certainly not in the safety zone yet!). I hope you can find comfort in each other. But this is a great group to find compassion in.
Good luck on your continuing journey!

  • @healz413 if I understood our RE correctly she did ovulate but only 1 or 2 of the mature follicles. She had 5 mature follicles and a few not mature. Therefore the 6 cysts consist of the follicles that did not ovulate despite being mature. To be honest I do not totally understand the whole thing either. We go in Friday for for a consult with the RE to learn about the IVF procedure, so I am going to ask about the whole ovulating thing with the HCG.

  • @themommymonster thats awesome!! Are you involved in any "mom and tot" type groups in the city? We are looking to meet some new people who actually understand what we are going through. My DW grew up in Portland and moved here a few years ago so all of her friends and there. All of my friends are younger and not quite to the whole having a baby stage in life. Once we have a baby we are thinking about joining some groups to meet new LGBT parents.

@flygirl1228 from what the RE said even some of the mature ones didn't ovulate. She had 5 mature ones, only 1 or 2 ovulated. One of her cysts is at 40mm and the others are at 20mm which to me seems really big!!! I hope your friend and we can deliver some good news in the up coming months!!! :)
