3 Positive Tests. Yay! But Then A Whole Bunch of -.

Many of you may not remember me because I haven't posted on this board in... uh... YEARS!   I decided it was best to take a TTC break so hubby and I could go back to school and my son was actually a pleasant surprise so I got to bypass the whole TTC thing for him.  I hate doing the whole stupid "drive-by" thing without doing a good intro, but I need some thoughts here!

Has anyone gotten multiple + tests followed by multiple -?  Does this usually mean a chemical pregnancy?  Or does it just mean I'm a crazy HPT hoarder and should just calm down and wait to go see my doctor next week?

To give a little back story, I had my son 9 months ago and haven't had a pp period yet.  So my last period was October of 2012.  We started solids in January and he cut down on nursing sessions in February so I started taking OPKs so I wouldn't be surprised when AF decided to rear her ugly head again.  I got what I thought was a + on April 1st so I stopped taking them.  Then when AF hadn't showed I decided "hey, I got a bunch of HPTs... why not take one?"  And now for the last 48 hours I've been going BSC.  And I was hoarding OPKs and HPTs because DH and I were going to TTC this summer, although we were doing nothing to prevent.

    Were your tests by chance expired? I say that because I had to give my stash away after my dd was born because of the upcoming expiration date

    Ok...  They were definitely HCG tests, not LH.  I TTCd for two years, I do know the difference (although that is a legit question!).

    They weren't expired.  I bought one lot back in December and another lot just a couple of weeks ago and they don't expire until 2016 and 2017.

    The first + I got around 5PM.  Then I took another one around 7PM and that was the -.  DH suggested I try again around 10PM and that one was +.  FMU the next morning was also +. But after that it was a whole bunch of -s.  Including my FMU test yesterday and this morning.  

    Pink dye tests.  I will never take a blue dye test... despise those things!

    I have caught a c/p in the past and my period followed the next day.  I still have nothing almost 3 days later.  No bleeding, no spotting.  So I guess that rules out a c/p...  But I had a hard time sleeping last night because I was having period-like cramping and stupid me only has Aspirin in the house so I just tossed and turned through it.  Thought for sure I'd have AF this morning and nope.  Nothing.  I know period-like cramps can also be a sign of early pregnancy and was for my son, but that was also accompanied by a positive HPT.  It could have also been gas, I guess.

    I'm just so baffled!  I know false negatives are rare, but possible... but THREE false negatives in a 12 hour period?  And they weren't evap lines.

    Hey!  I remember you!  Good to see another J13 who is TTC.  We weren't planning to start yet since AF hadn't even shown up PP yet, but then all of this happened so now of course I want to be pregnant so bad.  Lol!

    I just hate this limbo.  It's been years since I've had a 2WW and I forgot how torturous they can be.

    What brand of tests were you using? If they were wondfos, my bet is on a bad batch. Those things are shit anymore.

    They were Wondfo's from two different batches.

    If you've been getting negatives now and still no period, I would definitely blame it on shitty wondfos. Their OPKs still seem to be fine, but their HPTs are awful and notorious for false positives and false negatives lately.

    You ovulate before getting your period, so yes.  You can get PG before getting PP AF.  I was just thinking how nice it would be to skip that first one and go 3 years without a period!  My cousin kept getting pregnant without a pp period for four kids!  They were all born within 18 months of each other so she didn't have a period for over 5 years!  But also had to deal with 4 under 5...

    I took a digital and got "Not Pregnant".  So we're going to go with that for now, but I'll test again in a couple of days if AF hasn't shown up.  I keep having period-like cramping but that could just be all in my head.

    I woke up twice last night with cramps that I was SO SURE was the start of my period, but, alas, no period.  My husband, the enabler, pointed out the same thing happened in early pregnancy with Barrett.  I then pointed out that it could all be in my mind and I'm just going crazy.

    But I took another test this morning and had the world's lightest positive.  I had to put it up against a white piece of paper to see the color contrast at the test part, it was that light.  Hardly a real positive especially since my tests could be faulty, but I guess it means I'm not completely out.  Then my husband, the enabler, suggested I try the negative trick I've seen on message boards to see if tests are positive or negative better.  When I did that 6 looked positive (the initial two positives, the FMU positive, plus FMU the next day and two others that day).  But that was with A LOT of tweaking and still meant there were a lot of negatives in the bunch.  Which, again, probably means I have some messed up tests.

    Although they ARE NOT Wondfos.  I guess they are slightly different.  They are similar to Early-Pregnancy-Tests.com test strips which, according to another message board, are not Wondfos.  Whatever, still internet cheapies.

    So either I got my O date wrong and I'm a lot earlier than I thought I was, I got a bunch of wacky tests, or I'm just going crazy.  I'm going to switch the Dollar Store tests later to mix things up a bit and stick with FMU only.  At this point I just want my period to show up so I can start charting and try again next month because I really don't think I'm PG.  But I'm also not taking aspirin for these cramps... just in case!

    Do Dollar Store tests count as cheapies?  I just can't wrap my head around paying more than that for a stick I pee on.  Especially after I shelved out $11 to buy 2 digitals...

    I work at CVS and even with my 30% discount I wouldn't buy pregnancy tests there!  Whenever someone comes in to buy PG tests I always discreetly send them across the parking lot to the Dollar Store.  It's shocking to me how much people will pay for a PG test because usually they just buy the one at CVS.  But, then again, I think most people take one test and take the answer at face value and go on with their lives.  They aren't POAS crazy and know that you can get a negative if it's too early...

    DH keeps asking me why I just don't go buy better tests and asked if it's because I'm scared it will be positive or negative.  I really don't know the answer to this.  The idea of being pregnant made me excited but the idea of not being pregnant made me relieved.  Ah... life.

    I can't believe you didn't get flamed before this. A newbie would have been flamed just for your OP. Go buy better tests and go to 1st tri if pregnant.

    You can get FRERs for like $8 at Walmart and maybe 9 at Target I believe. My dollar store cheapies showed positive, but they were always so much lighter because that's just how that dye is. I still did FRER to confirm my light line on the dollar store cheapie. Although it was the cheapie that clued me in to my chemical last week, I'd still go with FRER, just because you weren't doing a progression already like I was.
