Feverish Baby WWYD?

So LJ started with a fever yesterday and by the afternoon it was a little over 104 (he has no other symptoms). We gave him Advil and talked to the on call dr who basically said to treat based on symptoms and bring him in if it doesn't go away after 2-3 days. So last night around 2:30a he woke up pretty upset we gave Advil again and after about an hour he settled down and went back to sleep. Well, he is still sleep! It's 12:15pm my time. My question to you guys is at what point would you wake him up if at all? I mean, I'm all for him sleeping it off but I don't want him to start getting day/nights switched. FTM here so maybe I shouldn't even be concerned about that at this age? Thoughts?

ETA - sorry for all the typos, sick baby = brain vacation

  • DS is a light sleeper, so my checking on him every so often to make sure he's still breathing would probably wake him. If for some reason he didn't wake up, I honestly don't know what I'd do. I guess you're not still nurisng? I'd probably try to make a dream feed happen if you are. Hopefully some less-clueless ST (or FT) Ms can help you out. Poor little guy :(

  • Yeah, I've just been obsessively watching the video monitor and he's been moving around enough that I haven't done a room check (yet). No, I'm no longer nursing. Blah, this sucks.

  • i wouldnt wake him..hes sick and sleep is the best remedy. keep checking him and feeling to see how warm he is. he probably needs another dose of meds as soon as he gets up. if the temperature goes any higher i would bring him in. poor baby...hopefully hes better by tomorrow..maybe its just a 24 hour thing!
  • I was told to alternate Tylenol and Motrin every 4(?) Hours. I think that was the timeframe. How he feels better soon!

I hope so, I'm sort of hoping he's sleeping so soundly because he's breaking his fever. I know whenever I've had fever it's always broken while I was asleep. I'm just sitting hoping he wakes up soon and sick with anxiety.

go in and check him...feel his forehead..will make u feel better. and yes alternate motrin/tylenol every 4 hours and put lukewarm cloths on him. fevers are the worst, they are so pathetic.
  • I would let him sleep.  Rest is the best thing for his body right now.  Just make sure to check every now and then.

  • Yay! Glad he's feeling better. Guess he just needed to sleep it off :)
