Gardening accomplished

Well, as much as I can do on an apartment patio anyway. I'm making an attempt to grow carrots, arugula, and broccoli. Possibly romaine too if the head ends I have start to regrow; I have them sitting in some water and will plant them if they start to regrow. I by no means have a green thumb, but I'm trying to learn more!

Re: Gardening accomplished

  • I love gardening, although all of my efforts have suffered since having children. The plants don't scream and pull at my legs when they're thirsty or need attention, so...
I'm trying spinach for the first time this year. They've sprouted, so I hope they grow. We also finally have a south-side balcony/yard, so I'm going to give tomatoes another go. I haven't had so much luck with them in the past since we were on the west side of the building.
I've also got various herbs going (nothing like fresh cilantro for pico de gallo!) and am trying strawberries (haven't sprouted, don't think they're coming) and cucumbers.

    Yay for gardening!

  • I love the idea of gardening, but I don't really enjoy it. DH does not like most veggies , so if I had a vegetable garden I'd be eating it all myself or trying to give it away before it went bad.

Last summer I had 2 tomato plants. They basically turned into monsters taking over my porch (they were planted in front of the porch in my flower bed). I didn't know tomato plants could get that big or produce so many tomatoes. Maybe someday I'll grow lettuce and corn, those are two things DH will actually eat.

  • We started planting ours yesterday! And by we, I mean DH. :) We're planting three different types of peppers, two different tomatoes, and zucchini in our veggie garden. In our herb garden we're doing rosemary, basil, and lavender. We'll see how it goes!

  • This thread inspired me! I just found an adorable herb garden starter kit at Homegoods. It's for basil, parsley and thyme. I normally kill plants so fingers crossed!
