Milk not freezing in freezer?

I added my bags of milk to freezer on Friday like I usually do and went to get out bags last night for Monday morning and noticed one of the bags did not freeze. It was in the same spot as the others (actually surrounded by two others from Friday that did freeze.). This happened once before and I just tossed the milk that didn't freeze but it's weird! Like 48 hours in the freezer and everything around it is frozen?! Thoughts? Should I toss this one too?

  • That's bizarre. Maybe check your freezer? Might not be getting cold enough and the frozen stuff is slow to thaw out. I would think the new milk is ok even though not frozen. It's like putting it in a cooler full of ice. Is it still cold?

Yeah everything else is totally frozen. Even this bag is more cold then it would be in fridge but just not frozen. I was wondering if the bag was like somehow contaminated or something which was not allowing it to freeze initially.  I changed its location (and marked the bag) and then it froze.  But again, it was surrounded by other bags that were liquid then froze so it's just so strange!

  • The only thing I can think of that would not allow it to freeze is alcohol.  That is so weird.

  • That happened to me and I found out my freezer wasn't getting cold enough. I later noticed the same thing happen to some food I had in there. It's an old fridge and I ended up getting a deep freeze. They were actually a lot cheaper than I thought they would be.
  • I used to buy big packages of freeze pops (the Popsicles in clear plastic tubes) for my students. Sometimes the pops in the middle didn't freeze but those on the outside did. Maybe the layers of bags are insulating against freezing?

I would try freezing the bags next to each other instead of one on top of another, then stacking once frozen.
