Uppababy Vista vs Cruz Stroller

May Mamas - help!

We registered and received the Uppababy Mesa car seat and have gift cards to help purchase the stroller. I loved the Vista and didn't really pay much attention to the Cruz when we were looking a few months ago. I know the Cruz doesn't come with the bassinet.

I can get the Vista from Buy Buy Baby for $619 (they will price match Amazon & their completion coupon).

or

I can get the Cruz from Buy Buy Baby for $391 (same thing - price match with Amazon)

so....

does anybody have experience with the Cruz and Vista? Pros/Cons besides the price difference?

We decided to go with the Cruz because I felt the ride was just as nice as the Vista but the Cruz is not as wide as the Vista and weighs less.  My friend who has a Vista says the width of the Vista is kind of annoying.  Also, I don't think we would use the bassinet too much, which is a deciding factor.

@kitchencolors - thanks - I will have to check them out again (maybe this weekend) and compare. Since you already have a LO, would you say that a light weight compact single stroller is better (I hate to use that word because I know it depends on lifestyle and preference) than a full size that can convert?

DH and I will probably have another kid at some point, but we really haven't talked about it. We live in a suburb of DC and commute by both train and car (and walking) so I was thinking the Vista is more sturdy for the types of transportation we use. Am I totally off?

  • @flojo973 - I would link it, but it wouldn't show up for you. It's this stroller on Amazon, but we registered through Amazon (and I'm an Amazon Mom) so we got the 15% completion discount (it shows up in your cart). You just need to print off your cart and show it to BBB or bring it up on your smartphone there.

    It shows up like this:

  • @kitchencolors - I definitely wouldn't be folding it up. I'd just push it right onto the train. I guess I'll just go and take a look at it again. I really liked the idea of having the bassinet because I plan on going for long walks while on mat leave.

  • @anniemore - we don't take the bus anywhere, but I would imagine with that I'd have to fold up the stroller. Metro (DC train) allows you to bring strollers on - I've seen lots of moms and dads do this (even doing rush hour) - not something I'd necessarily do, but it's definitely done in this area.

  • We purchased the vista and little one arrived 2 weeks ago and we all love it! I will say we use the crap out of the bassinet, which surprised me. She sleeps in it for naps and at nighttime next to our bed. Definitely worth the extra money IMO.
  • We have the Vista/Mesa combo. The Vista can ultimately convert to a triple stroller and I love the big basket on the bottom.

I'm very happy with it (my mom got it for us on a Black Friday deal with 20% off) but the Vista is a beast. Obviously my little squish isn't here yet, but it's in my living room all set up and I push it around every now and then just to get the dog used to walking with it.

Other than it being huge, I'm excited to use it. I also wish that the Mesa weighed less than it does but oh well - I like to match.
  • FTM, so no actual experience, but DH and I were prepared to buy the Vista based on demos, test drives, etc. but ended up walking out with a bugaboo buffalo. Long story short, the owner of the boutique was working that day and had a model he wanted to move so he offered us a deal we couldn't refuse. Anyway, we researched the heck out of strollers and most of my friends have the Vista. They all love it, especially having the bassinet option. They have all said it is completely worth the $$ and with the option of adding the rumble seat it justifies the purchase.

Plus, if you look at resell value, you can probably sell on Craigslist down the road and still make about 50% of your original purchase price back.

    Just my two cents!

I considered both. I really love the vista but since we didn't need the bassinet, I just couldn't justify the price (plus if/when we need a double, I already knew I wanted a city select). I really like the cruz! I ended up going with the baby jogger city versa simply because i could get the all terrain wheels but otherwise, I would have gotten the Cruz :) Really I think it comes down to a. weight, b. do you need the bassinet, and c. if you like the Vista twice as much (since its almost twice as expensive)

ETA: there are some you tube reviews comparing the two that I found really helpful/informative.

  • OP, I have had experience with both via watching my friends kiddos. IMO the Cruz is great. Good ride, plenty of room for cargo etc. Only downfall is that it doesn't come with the bumper bar which you need if you want to attach toys for the baby. I ended up buying that attachment. As far as the Vista, it is super nice! BUT, the bassinet is only useful for like 3 months max, it does convert to a double stroller but only has one position for that where the older child is basically "under" the baby and I believe they can only face you. IMO that wouldn't work out for long. They like to look around and the second seat is def not as comfortable as the real seat that comes with the stroller. But if you have the extra money to spend than enjoy!! Either way you're getting a great stroller. We bought the Cruz because for us if we end up having another LO down the line we will likely purchase a side by side stroller anyway. So we figured save the money and get a few attachments for the Cruz like the bumper bar and parent organizer.
  • **Total Lurker Here***

Just wanted to post as I have had the Vista for the past three years and I LOVE it.  We now have two little girls, and used the bassinet for each of them for about the first 5 months (until their necks strengthened enough to be able to use the seat.)  The Cruz didn't exist when we originally got the Vista, but knowing what I know now, I would never not get the bassinet.  We seriously used it all the time.  (I do have to say, though, that we live near a park, have dogs, and do a ton of walking, so we have gotten our money out of our stroller.  We also have a garage to store it in, as it is a beast.)

One thing to consider before you proceed, however, is the timing of any possible future children.  You do have the option to add the rumble seat to the Vista, but honestly, it stinks.  There is only one position for the older child to sit in, and it puts them rear facing looking at the bottom of the bassinet...it is horrible.  There is no way we could have gotten my older daughter to sit in that.  So, we just bought another stroller, a BOB, that is a double.  If I had thought through things completely the first time around (and really considered how quickly we wanted our children spaced), I probably would have gone with either a cheaper stroller up front, or gotten one that had better "double" options.

  • @flojo973 - just to let you know, we went to BBB today and I showed my Amazon price to the Customer Service counter. They honored the price of $619 for the Vista and let me use my 10% completion coupon so we ended up buying the vista for a little over $550. Just thought I'd pass that on in case you were interested...
