Hungry cry + snot issues

Hi ladies. Two issues I've had today/tonight.

1. Hungry cry. I'm pretty much exclusively pumping. Some BFing, maybe a little formula (like once per week). She is 12 lbs now and has been consistently eating around 24 oz per day (easy to measure since mostly pumping). Today she has had 30(!!!!) oz and is crying for more. I've tried other soothing techniques, and finally happily she takes a bottle. She is then successfully burped, no spit up. How much is too much?!?!?

2. She almost gave me a heart attack choking on snot. Seems like it's all trapped down her throat...bulb in the nose didn't suck out anything. I did the turn on hot shower and steam her in the bathroom thing, her breathing sounds a little better...what else can I do?? It was SCARY choking I don't want it to happen again.

Put some Vicks in a warmer in her room, that worked wonders for us for the snot.

As for the milk, we had about a week of around 35 oz per day! I thought I just had a little piggy but this week he is back to eating around 28-30 so maybe she's just growing. If she's hungry, I'd feed her!

    Dumb question...what's a "warmer"?

  • I don't know about the feeding amounts for EBF - I do think it can differ from baby to baby, but certainly if she is hungry then feed her.

For the snot and congestion, I have been using saline drops (they make them for babies) and just a drop or two per nostril will clear her nose pretty quickly - she has sneezed out some HUGE boogers after the drops that are no wonder as to why she couldn't breath!  I agree that putting a humidifier in near her bed would likely help as well, and adding some Vicks to that couldn't hurt.  When my toddler had a bad cold a few months ago, the humidifier seemed to help a lot.
