Washable breast pads?

I'm a leaky mess and need to wear breast pads 24/7. In fact, the moment I take them off I start to drip. I have no idea how I'll be able to breastfeed in public because half the time I need to change my shirt because I've leaked so much in the few seconds it takes LO to latch. It's ridiculous. lol

Anyway, I have the lansinoh disposable pads but I think id rather get washable ones. Any recommendations??

  • The washable ones I got leak so I stick to the disposables.

I bought some from this seller on etsy and they've been great! https://www.etsy.com/shop/crystalskye
  • I spring a leak (lol) if I hear a baby laugh, or cry, or sneeze, or a kitten meow, or think about food, or take a shower,...well, pretty much all.the.time.

With DD I was the same way. I tried reuseable, but I'd never be able to own enough to keep them dry.
I washed and washed and washed...

I rarely leaked with DS1 so I bought a box of disposables and I could wear the same pad for 3 days before it got wet.

I'm always leaking this time, so I decided to just use disposeables because of my experience with DD. Yes, I go through a lot (20+ a day?) but my nipples stay dry and I've never had a cracked, bleeding or sore nipple.
**also, the disposeables have adhesive to keep them in place. The reuseable ones do not.
  • I've been using bamboobies and I like them. And ugh, yes, I'm like you that I can't even take them off- I have to have a burp cloth handy as soon as I take them off to nurse!

Glad I'm not the only one!
  • I use Johnson and Johnson disposable ones and they hold a lot of liquid.
And just in case anyone wants to know, i washed a disposable one the other day... Not recommended, man was that a mess in my washing machine.

  • I felt like a garden hose the first two weeks with Mia, and I tried so hard to use the washables but they just never held enough liquid to be of any real use. I HAD to switch to disposables after two days even though I had five boxes of the washables. I do not, under any circumstances, recommend NUK brand washable nursing pads.

  • I think the ones I got are Motherhood Maternity brand. They work for me.

  • I having issues with the washable ones as well. My nipples stick to them if they actually do dry and most times I leak right through them. Thinking about using disposable only.
  • Not sure if you're crafty at all, but I made my own. Flannel on the outsides, terry on the inside (4 circles all together). I also bought a six pack of organic ones from BRU that I like.

This, but I am a mild leaker except at night, when I have to fold up a flat diaper and shove it in my bra.

  • I use Bamboobies and love them so far. They are pricey but Babies R US has them on sale from time to time- I got two boxes (so 8 pairs in all) for about $20 between the sale and some rewards dollars.

  • I've tried four different washable brands and they all leak. I might try the bamboobies.
  • I haven't leaked a drop this time around but I made my own before Colton was born. Super cheap and easy. I used a pair of old flannel pj pants with terry cloth in the middle and for the layer that goes against my clothes I used a cheap dollar store shower curtain.
  • I think all washable ones will leak to some degree (if there's enough liquid!) but a LC nurse pointed out it's actually better to have pads with a breathable back (read: not completely leak-proof) bc with more air circulation you're less likely to get yeast or an infection or whatever.

  • I hate washing pump parts so I can't imagine also washing breast pads. I use disposable lansinoh and they are fine. I hope you find something that helps!

I love bamboobies!  I have used them for two babies now.  I just throw them in a delicates bag and wash them with my white clothes.

  • I just wanted to add that I was super leaky up until about 3 weeks pp. I was worried that I was just going to leak forever, but it is much better now. I don't know if it gets better for everyone, but hopefully it will at least slow down for you!

Also, I don't know the brand name but I WAY preferred the purple brand of disposable pads. They stuck way better and I just found they absorbed more while staying comfortable.
