Photos of the baby on Facebook

A friend of mine is not posting pictures of her baby on Facebook for security reasons. When I asked her to explain she responded, you know like kidnappings.
I don't understand this train of thought, can someone explain it to me? I mean, I respect a mom right to choose where and when the LO's picture is displayed, I just don't get the kidnapping statement.

    Maybe a kidnapper will know where she is if she posts a pic and can go there and take the baby? I would be more concerned with pedofiles looking at the pics.

    If you post too much personal information on FB and don't keep your profile private, people can find you. Kidnapping is a long shot, but it's definitely possible.

    My sister made me take down all pictures of my niece cuz of pedofiles more so than kidnapping. But yeah it is kind of scary that they could find you.

    This. I have posted maybe three or four pictures, and he didn't mind, but I definitely won't be doing a full album or anything.

    I have my settings high and when I do "view as" it shows me what people see and they can still see my cover photo. Does anyone know if there is a way to hide this? I'm thinking the only way is to change who can search you to either friends of friends or no one instead of public.

    I agree with being more worried about sex offenders. My profile is private though and i weeded out my "friends" that I'm not really friends with (people I met in college that I don't talk to anymore or really know). Maybe I'm being naive?

    I created a private group and added family members. This way I only annoy family members.
