summer fun prep questions

1. Is your LO too young for a sandbox this year?

2. If you have a deck, are you putting up some kind of gate/pen to prevent LO from falling off?  (ours has 3 steps to the yard)

3. If you have a girl and use a reusable swim diaper, do you put a swimsuit over it?

    1. Ewwww.  Sandbox.  I hate them for several reasons.  First, they are germy and buggy.  Secondly, kids just end up either eating the sand or throwing it at siblings, which means it ends up in the hair and it takes DAYS to scrub it out or causes meltdowns because it's in their eyes.  No sandboxes ever in this house!!

    2.  We have three steps down from our deck and I've never used a gate.  I've also never had a baby fall.

    3.  We usually only swim at my parents' pond, so my babies go diaperless a lot of the time and swim nakey.  We do have one swimsuit in which the bottoms are an actual swim diaper, but I rarely use it because once they poop in it they then have no bottoms.  One most occasions I just use a swim diaper and a rash guard shirt.

  • I'm no help, either.

    1. No sandboxes in sight, but we might go to the beach.
    2. No deck.
    3. Team blue.

  • 1) no box but she is BANANAS for the beach so we're getting a sand/water table for her soon. I think this may eliminate some of the mess because she won't be able to sit directly in it.

    2) no deck but if we had one we'd probably use out tension gate to block off the stairs.

    3) we're swim diaper and rash guard when we're casually playing and through a swimsuit over that combo when we're with others and want to look fancy. (<- good grief, I might as well wear an 'I'm a first time mom!' sign on my head with all that swim gear production!

  • We are putting in a sandbox here and I can't wait! I found the guidelines to even put in a pull chain faucet water tap out by e box so the kids can have wet sand if they want. Yes, it will get everywhere, but I already have a dog and no carpet, so it's pretty easy to clean up.

We have a few concrete steps going to the back door. DH is going to put in a patio around. We can't really block of the stairs because then dd can't get in to pee, but she is all over him like white on rice all day long, so I'm not too worried. He won't go out unsupervised ever.

We have the apple cheeks reusable swimmie, but it's dipper light weight sand gets sand in it. This year we are going to put him in trunks and a rash guard to help for more sun protection. Swim suits are silly for babies but they are just so damn cute! I might even pick up a super girly frilly one for baby girl!

  • Just going to AW this here. He wears a swim diaper and trunks. I also want to get a long sleeved rash guard because his forearms are already super dark!

We have no deck, but if we did and it was railed we would probably just put up a gate unless he had stairs figured out.

And we use sposie swim diapers, but we do put his swim trunks on over them.

  • 1. Not too young, but F a sandbox. Sand drives me nuts. We have a beach house so I'm sure DS will eat plenty of sand there.
    2. We have a deck but will not put up a gate.
    3. Team blue, but I cloth diaper and just use a pocket dipe with no inserts for DS under his swimsuit.

  • We are having a sand box this year and I am excited about it!

We have a deck with 3 steps and will not be putting a gate up. E is pretty good at going down stairs.

Team blue here, but I will put shorts over his swim diaper. More for sun protection than anything else.
  • 1. DH wants to get a sandbox for the girls, I am against it. Several playgrounds close to us have sand, and I'd prefer to keep the mess there. DD2 plays in the sand some when we're at the playground. Not too young, I'd say.

    2. We have a deck with 2 steps and have no gate up. On my parents' when DD1 was about this age we really could have used one, though. She  went for the steps all the time and fell down them a few times. Of course, she also learned how to go down steps on those stairs.

    3. I put them in a swim diaper and the suits that look like shorts and a t-shirt with UV protection. It usually doesn't get *that* hot here, and I'd prefer to protect them from the sun that way and avoid using too much sun screen. Both of them have eczema and I try to avoid using too many creams and stuff on their skin.
