Anyone have any experience with Montessori school? We are moving to Houston next month, and are looking for childcare/preschools for DD and baby on the way due 9/10. Our good friends there have their son in Montessori and rave about the place, but the concept is new to us. Any thoughts?
Re: Montessori?
DS doesn't have desks and all that. There's stations, some tables, rugs, a loft, couches where they do their work. Each student has x amount of daily work, they do it at their pace, with or without other students or the teachers help. He's in first grade, but he has 1-3 in his class, a total of 21 students. He has the same teacher for 1-3 and then 4-5. They gave stations, like science, math (they do old school hands on math), life sciences... They also start learning from a whole. They learn about the universe, the solar system, the earth, the continents, the countries, the states, then the towns, in that order. ( the same with math, he's already learned cubes, and all of that so when he starts more complex math he will have that foundation)They learn why we have bees, why we need to respect plants, animals...
In K they had an art area, a kitchen area, a puzzle area, plus the others.
Let me google some images quick.
