Extreme breast pain at night

I have scoured the internet but can't find why my breasts hurt so bad at night. I even asked a breast specialist I'm seeing for an unrelated abscess and he just shrugged it off and assured me it wasn't thrush. So what is it??! He just mumbled something about it being common (he is the worst).

My symptoms are pink nipple which sometimes loses all color and looks white, like a Popsicle when you suck out all the juice and only the ice part is left, and the pain starts from the nipple and then after nursing spreads to my entire boob like an incredibly painful pins and needles episode. Doesn't that sound like thrush?!

It is only bad at night and during the day is super mild/unnoticeable. At night the pain is a 7 out of 10. Bad enough that I can't sleep.

I have an appointment with another breast specialist on Tuesday about my abscess, so I'm going to ask again but any ideas ladies?

  • Sounds like vasospasms. Mine were always worse at night, I think partially due to LO having a lazy latch when sleepy. Though the pink nipples make me think thrush as well, which could be makung vasospasm worse

An LC in the hospital said she suspected I had it the first time she helped me BF DS right after he was born. Then it was confirmed at my 6 wk PP OB appointment. If that is what you have, there are medications and techniques that can help.

I hope that you get some relief soon! GL!
